Paint looks so much better than plain plastic. It’s looking good.
I’ve used a few of the Gundam markers and panel liners to pick out some more details. I need to take some pics and post them

Hello all, got some work done today.
The first picture is where I am at with my current build, I’m not fully assembling this one, I put together some sub-assemblies so I can move on to part prep and some additional panel line scribing. Hopefully the water slide decals will get here soon that I ordered.
Since this one is not fully assembled, I included a picture of the same kit that I did fully assemble a couple of years ago.
Well, mine is together.
Hey everybody,
Sorry to have been away for so long. Real life was making a lot of demands on my time and didn’t have much opportunity to check in. From the looks of it everyone has been quite busy! Lots of excellent work from everyone.
@Mustang8376, saw your WIP thread. Looking really good! I like how the paint is coming together on your Gundam.
@Silverloc, that HG is coming together nicely.
Hey @Rob_Gronovius, haven’t seen you in here for a while. Hope all is well.
@RealG, from what I saw you’ve been busy on a lot of builds. Any chance that Factory has made any additional progress?
@NucMedTech, that Master Grade is pretty sweet. All those weapons will give lots of opportunity for posing!
I got some time at the bench this week myself. Tried out the Gundam Marker Panel liner. Not as nice or controllable as my usual pinwash method but I think it does a respectable job.
The Markers aren’t quite as nice as regular painting, but they fill the gap nicely between unpainted model and full paint job. Great way to make these kits pop a bit more without having to go all out.
I’m thinking that for a bit of fun I’ll do an in-between shot with half the Gundam w/and the other half w/o having used the markers to show contrast. I’ll finish the job, but not before taking that picture. ![]()
I should add that I’m working on a badge to give everyone at the end as well.
@NWAN322, since you’ve completed your build is there a beauty shot you’d like for me to use of the finished kit?
That would be awesome! I was hoping to do some more work/painting on it, but I haven’t had a chance to before I went back to school (+ I need to make some other competition deadlines). I’ll try to get a beauty shot, but for know that one will have to do!
The official end date of the Group Build is October 31st. Still have plenty of time to put some paint on if desired. I expected people to be spending more time outside and away from the bench during the summer. Hence the extended timeline.
My Gundam build is picking up some steam now that other distractions have diminished.
Gundam was having a bit of a rough day.
No worries though. Things were really looking up for him a little later.
The left side has some work with the Gundam Marker panel liner and paints. Very subtle differences, but worthwhile I think. Next up is finishing the rest of him with the markers. Got a few ideas to try out. Then it’s on to the accessories!
Glad he could pull himself back together.
Gandamu, daichi ni tastu! (Gundam, standing!)
Think I need to get back to work on mine.
Thank you for the extended finish date, due to work, the work on my kit came to almost a halt. I have drawn on the additional panels I want to scribe, just haven’t gotten chisel to plastic yet.
I think I will call this one done. Interesting experience dealing with a pre-painted kit. Going forward, I know what I need to do make it look better when I do another build in the future. Enjoy and thanks for allowing me in the Group Build!
Nicely done @Mustang8376. Glad you joined us on this foray into the world of Gundam. Which photo would you like to represent the finished build?
All the panel lines I wanted to do are done. I’ve been playing with the Gundam Markers to try and make the details stand out a little more. Nearly done. Pics coming soon.
We can use this one, if you need a better photo just let me know. I have it chilling on my desk at work right now. ![]()
Will do @Mustang8376! No preferences on my part. I only want to make sure I’m using the photo you’d prefer be used to represent the finished kit.
That’s awesome he’s keeping you company at work. No doubt he’s fighting off those evil distractions that keep us from being productive. ![]()
I’d thought I’ be happy with just the panel liner, but the pictures didn’t seem to capture the detail that was there.
Decided I’d take a risk and instead of doing edge highlights I’d treat it like it was drawn animation and darken edges instead.
That was more like it. There are many edges I didn’t touch, but I’m happy enough with the results that I am calling this guy done!
