Welcome to the 2025 Summer Gundam Group Build.

New or existing builders of Gunpla come join in the fun! The goal is to build any RX-78-2 Gundam OOB.

For ideas on where to find one check out this thread.

Guidelines are as follows.

  1. Unstarted or minimally started kits of any Gundam RX-78-2. So long as an RX-78-2 is on the box it’s valid. All grades are accepted.
  2. Out of Box Build.
  3. Painting is not required (they are molded in color). If you decide to paint, no need to stick with OG color schemes.
  4. Length of the build, June-October 31 2025.

I am in so many GBs now, but what the heck, I’ll throw in with a RX-78F00 Gundam (the Yokohama Gundam).

So it has to be OOTB? Okay. Pinkie-promise. Or as Arnold said in T2 “I swear.”

LOL. OOTB because of the relatively short time line. If you think you can handle it, go for it!

Definitely hoping to join! Just got to find a good kit haha. Would a minor proportion modification be allowed? :pleading_face:

I really wanted to just extend the thighs of a ver.ka or EG or something. But beside that, I would keep it basically OOTB. If not, all good haha.

If you think you can finish it in the timeline given, go for it. :+1:
The OOTB guideline is to help (at least me) stay in the general summer the timeline.

I would love to join this build, I just have to unbury my unbuilt HG Revive kit from my stash. :slight_smile:

I have not built the grand daddy yet, this would be a good opportunity. I have two MG kits, ver 1.5 and ver 3.0. Put me down for the RX 78-2 ver. 1.5. Get the older kit out of my stash.

LOL, no perfect grades yet, but the GB is just getting started. We may be in for a surprise.

Cracked open my EG last night and pulled out the sprues. Looks pretty straightforward.

I’ll be getting a separate build thread started up shortly.

I dry fitted the “Gundam Dock”.

Incredibly, this will only be my second RX-78 Gundam kit I have ever built. The first one was from the old 1/144 G-Armor kit, which was painted to resemble the prototype Gundam in green and grey. I have some poor physical photos of the kit somewhere, but it was repurposed to be a Makoto Kobayashi-inspired design.

I really got to get back to work on that one.

That’s going to be quite the build. Those detailed drawings in the manual are awesome. I love it when the kit makers include stuff like that.

Yeah, I mostly build the bad guys! However, I do have a couple of RX-78 Gundams in the stash:

  • MG Gundam 1.0
  • MG Gundam 1.5
  • MG Gundam Ver.Ka
  • HGUC Prototype Gundam
  • HGUC Full Armor Gundam

I also have a bunch of other non-RX-78 Gundams:

So I suppose I’d be a liar to say I don’t have any Gundams.

well… bad guys is a relative term in this universe :rofl:

I’ve built a large number of RX-78s haha and I have a few unbuilt ones too. I’ve done the Mega Size one, 3 EGs (about to be four with this GB), the old HGUC, the HG GBWC Clear Color (unbuilt), the MG Origin, and the SDCS.

Yes you are correct that not all the “bad guys” were bad. Not all of them were 2-dimensional, waxed mustache-twirling villains plotting to “take over the world”. I think that is why Gundam resonates with fans. The Archduchy of Zeon had entirely justifiable reasons to revolt against the Earth Federation, much like how the United States broke away from the UK.

But dropping asteroids and colonies onto Earth to bring on a new ice age was just wrong. That would have resulted in the extinction of countless plant and animal species. Char was narrow minded in his obsessive desire to punish the human race, despite his justifications and grandiose posturing.

Okay sorry about that. I sometimes get too into this stuff.
