Just finished test fitting the EG! Fun quick build while I waited for some putty to dry on my L-100
@NWAN322 & @RealG I sadly cannot join in the good guy/bad guy discussion.
The Gundam I have watched is Gundam00, Gundam Unicorn (I really didn’t understand this one), and Iron Blooded Orphans. Story wise, I enjoyed Iron Blooded Orphans the most. The challenge I had is all three are so far down the road from the earliest series it’s hard to grasp the history. At some point I’d like to watch the original.
If just talking about the model kits, HGUC is my favorite. Hands down.
PG, those Gundam series are Alternate Universe, separate from the original Universal Century. So different timelines, but with a common franchise base.
When I started digging to find out more about the OG Gundam, the first thing I was struck by was the amount of world building that was expended on a kid’s Saturday evening TV show. Yeah, some of the characters were over the top, but others had a depth greater than what you would expect. Even some of the “bad guys” were good people that cared about those that served under them, and they truly believed in the justness of their cause.
That’s why I love Gundam so much. The more you dig, the more you learn about how much thought was put into what was supposed to be a disposable cartoon. I have a saying: “There is no next best thing to Gundam.” Nippon Sunrise and Bandai have been trying for years, but they have yet to disprove me. Sure, there have been some truly great anime series since the 1979 OG show like Ghost in the Shell and Evangelion, and some have had equal longevity in popularity like Votoms, but none approach the pop culture giant that is Gundam.
Nice!
Excellent preview of what I am in for. For something labeled Entry Grade it sure makes for a nice kit. Maybe I’ll finally give the Gundam markers I picked up a run for their money.
Sadly I haven’t had time to work on anything. My free time is dedicated to other activities for the foreseeable future.
I suspected they were AU. It’s good to have confirmation of this.
Based on your write up I really need to watch OG Gundam. Your description reminds me of the Dougram series.
The compilation movies are on YouTube right now! That is if you don’t want to watch the older original show in its 43 episode glory.
To be honest, the animation quality of the OG TV show is awful. I only sat through it once just so that I could say I did it. It does have more character development than the three movies. Lots of “potato head” moments though, where the animators got sloppy and drew the characters with hilariously deformed faces.
Maybe it would be better to watch Gundam: Origins. It turns the clock back a few years and fleshes out the back stories of the main characters.
I still marvel at how Bandai can mold working joints.
I have the arms and legs complete
Hopefully will get chest and waist done tomorrow.
I know little about Gundams, but I bought this from the clearance aisle at Toys R Us back in the 1990s. Does it count? I’ve never had motivation to build it, but I rarely pass up a model kit on clearance.
It is a RX-78 variant so i would think so.
Go for it! I’ll get you added to the list a little later.
If possible I would like to join the group build. I will take a picture of the Gundam RX-78 Entry grade that is in my stash.
Good morning fellow Spacenoids! I dry fit my Gundam over the weekend and had a little fun with it.
Cleanup of the nubs is complete, so construction can commence.
Absolutely @Mustang8376!
I’ll get you added to the roster.
Wow, that Factory Gundam has impressive articulation. Those were awesome poses!
Here is the Gundam I will be building. Should be an interesting adventure. Even though it is molded in color I am possibly thinking of still painting it prior to assembly.
Welcome to the GB @Mustang8376!
Finally got started on my EG kit. Will spin up a separate thread for the build itself. I’m not going to do use an airbrush on it. Using Gundam markers I’ve had sitting on my bench to pick out certain parts. Funny enough the paint dries to almost the exact same color as the plastic.
Thank you, I will be starting soon.
