I feel like my apartment may look like this in a few years
Really cool display, love the bombers!
This is 20+ years of work.
Thanks @Comrade_Shmersky !
aggieman do your models tend to collect less dust hanging on your walls that way?
@MR_TOM_SCHRY The answer is an emphatic no.
Here is my set up, the upstairs game room
And the game room.
My stash is in the garage, along with another workstation for nice days
Wow my dad would absolutely adore your upstairs game room. He was in around 5th grade when A New Hope came out, and he’s been a Star Wars fan ever since!
Btw, I really like that Tie Defender and the Gundam collection!
Thank you, NWAN. I was around that age when I saw Star Wars as well. I was in Germany at the time and had to go see it in the local theater. Fortunately it was still in English but had German subtitles.
That defender, if I recall, was a jpg casting in 1/48 scale. I noticed mostly out of view and to the right of the defender, is the Chiss Claw craft, one of my favorite tie variants.
The gundams have been something that I have recently started getting into, mostly due to Hobby lobby 40% off weeks.
I am jealous of those who have glass display cabinets for their models. Wish I could do that for my models. But as I said in a previous post I made, my apartment is too small to display my models. Everything is packed up in plastic containers never to see the light of day.
Here’s another older pic I have. I have six finished model ships all in containers. One under a white cloth on the bottom. Two containers covered with blue cloth. Another ship in a red storage carrying case. And two plastic tubs sitting on top of the red carrying case. On top of the blue covered model containers is a white covered unfinished aircraft carrier hull. All these large ship model cases/containers are sitting in my living room. I have nowhere else to go with them.
It is sobering to think it was 48 years ago when Star Wars hit the theaters. I was just entering middle school when I was transported to a galaxy far, far away.
I always liked how obscure the chiss claw was too! My favorites are definitely the interceptor, defender, and reaper. When I was in 4th grade, my dad game me all of his old micro machines. Boy, I could play with those for hours.
Awesome that you’ve started Gundam! I wish Hobby Lobby had a bigger selection, but you know I guess there stuff is still pretty neat!
Yeah, sobering indeed. I was 10 when I saw Star Wars, so not out of elementary school at the time. But then think that this is 50 years since Jaws, two of the three movies that most defined the 70s for me (Alien being the third). There are lots of great movies from that decade, but those are the 3 that I rewatch most often.
Aggieman, you and me bro! Jaws, Star Wars and Alien were also the 3 most influential films I saw in the 1970s.
@RealG I’ll add that from the 70s, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, 1941, Halloween, The Godfather, The Conversation, Animal House, Smokey and the Bandit, Every Which Way But Loose, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and Dirty Harry would be up there for re-watches, but Jaws, Star Wars, and Alien are the trifecta of perfection for me.
The rest of the 1970s films I saw were mostly Godzilla and Gamera movies, so all were lightweight stuff.
There were other movies I consider landmark-grade that I didn’t see until high school or college. like Logan’s Run, THX-1138 and… Blazing Saddles.
Oh, I almost forgot Monty Python and the Holy Grail. “Now go away you seely kniggits, before I taunt you some more!”
But back on topic, back in the day my models just sat on an open shelf. I have two glass door display cabinets now, but the dust fiendishly finds its way in no matter what I do.
I have a closet that I’ve converted into my build and display area. When the shelves in my closet are full, the overflow goes downstairs in my shop.
Now that’s one heckuva big closet to start with Christopher and a lot of really cool builds on display in there. You just KNOW you’re going to have to share the space shuttle build that took up your entire garage with the bunch here. That was just a drop dead gorgeous restoration project and one MORE than worthy of seeing again.
I’m not far behind you. I was 8 when Star Wars came out. Was hooked from then on.
Wow! That’s a great use of space in your home. I’m curious, do you do airbrushing there?
