That’s looking great. Can’t wait to see your finished plane.![]()
Excellent paint scheme on that Me-109!
Worked yesterday on building a second Hasegawa 1/72 scale X-29 that I have. Will be painting it in a retro WW2 paint scheme similar to what the Kyushu J7W Shinden had and calling the X-29 the “Shinden II”. Pic is a bit bright due to the camera flash. Sorry.
Just finished the old Aurora German Wolf Pack U-Boat and the Aurora Russian missile submarine kits for a you tube group build. Thirty-eight and twenty parts total in each kit!
So, I started decalling my BF109. Frankly, I had some concern if the decals would hold up. This kit was in my stash for about 25 years(?)
Started with the balkenkreuz for the wings. The first one I did started falling apart. The old decals must have cracked.
To salvage this, I’ll first scan the whole decal sheet, in case I have to print a new set of decals.
Next, I’ll try clear coating the old decals. See if that helps to prevent those decals falling apart.
If that doesn’t work, I’ll just have to look for aftermarket decals.
Think this is the oldest item in my stash. Lesson learnt: start building! The longer the kits are left in storage, the more things go wrong: warped parts, cracked/yellowed decals, scratched canopies.
Experimenting with some environmental source lighting on this 1:14500 scale Imperial Star Destroyer by Bandai. The idea is light from a distanct sun will cause a shadow on the opposing hull and from the superstructure…
O nice, excited to see where this build goes! The second picture makes it look like it’s floating over Jedha or something
That color shift is well done but if I remember from “The Empire Strikes Back “ those star battleships were so massive that they actually blocked out the sun in its deeper parts. So you could actually go darker I suppose.
My bad habit of starting a dozen projects at once has caught up with me; 3 starships and 2 fighter jets all reached the sanding phase at the same time and now my fingers are sore ![]()
Ooh you’re right! Now there’s a potentially neat opportunity for a budding model photographer to consider… All I’ve done is set it on a glass outdoor table over terracotta tiles, but it indeed looks like a sandy planet from orbit!
Thanks mate! Ah yes, one of my favourite scenes from Empire is when the SSD Executor completely overshadows these 1,600m (5,200ft) long starships…
Definitely room to go darker with that scene in mind, but I’ll be following up with a sludge wash to try to capture the recessed details. These little Bandai kits have very deep and rich surface details to them, so have found they can easily end up looking too dark as they suck washes in like a tractor beam
Finished up these little guys. Thinking about what to paint next while I continue building the Falke.
I like how her cloak turned out better.
I spent 30 minutes redoing this little lady’s right eye!! Then brown paint got on her face and I had to clean all that up ![]()
Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt. Went back and did it all again. Now I have the punch card. ![]()
The figure turned out nicely. Eyes are the hardest thing to get right.
I did a lot of dry fitting on cockpit parts of my Revell 1/32 Junkers Ju88A-1 so that I would understand how to successfully put it together. This was to avoid a previous failure with this kit.
Then I cleared the bench off to repair the wood frame that surrounds a LED light fixture that I recently installed in my laundry room. I didn’t secure it properly. It fell and shattered into 4 pieces. Thankfully it was repairable.
I call it “viscous circle time”,fix one thing,disrupt another,fix that,disrupt something else. ![]()
Spent the day rotating this fresh 3D print in the window to try to get even UV curing on all sides prior to priming this week.
One thing on top of my work bench and one under…
On top I am putting together the LMG WO-1212 tool holder. The main two pieces were slightly warped so I’m trying to flatten them…
Under. I installed two under desk shelves. Needed somewhere to put stuff that’s out of the way.
I take it you’re a Michael Crichton fan? I have The Andromeda Strain book and the original 1971 movie. Really good…and scary. I’ll have to look up The Andromeda Evolution at my local library and check it out.
