PACIFIC CARRIER AVIATION GROUP BUILD

Welcome to the GB Josiah! Another F4U Corsair? Oh, this good. Very good indeed. I’m looking forward to building a like kit along with you. Do you have idea which markings your going to use?

3 Corsairs already! Do you have the “Birdcage” kit or the norman “bubble”-canopy version?

Its a birdcage, Im just gonn do the basic light blue with the light grey underneath wuth the kit decals, I believe its for VMF-213 if my memory serves correct? I still have a bunch of paint left over from my PV-1 and from what I understand planes in 1943 were still painted this way.

Also, glad to see another Broncos fan on the forums

Josiah: Sounds like an excellent project. Which PV-1 did you build? The Revell 1/48 or Minicraft 1/72? I love the Ventura and have all those kits in my stash.

I’m not a fan. I am an orange bleeding raging Bronco fanatic. GO BRONCOS!!!

1/48 Revell, Ill be posting some pics in the aircraft section when I get time.

Itll be good to see the Broncos bring home the trophy once more, all I remember from the last time was crying as Elway gave his retirment speech, I was a young guy back then…still under 6’

No doubt Josiah. I attended Elway’s farewell at Mile High and it ripped my heart out. My wife and I are having fun with this Super Bowl as she is from Seattle. Although she is not a big fan of football she does like the Seahawks.

NOLA is behind Peyton and the Broncos! =D

I can’t say anything about football. We don’t have that here in Austria. Only soccer and I think that’s lame [:(]

Here’s what I have so far, at least worth taking pictures of…

Sorry the pictures are terrible, at least they’re better than my phone.

I love lacrosse, and like hockey more than football, but I’ll watch a Broncos game any day.

Looking good, Josiah!

Hey Josiah, Looks to me that you have a real nice start. Good looking work on the engine and cockpit. Have you got some seat harnesses to add to the cockpit? You’ve got some really work going there so keep bringing the good stuff.

Thanks guys…

Joe, no seat harnesses on this one, I’m adding the pilot as this bird will be “in flight.” Kind of a shame as the details in the gear bays are pretty decent OOB but I bought this bird to be displayed in the form the actual plane was made for, dominating the skies. I’ll explain more a little later on in the build.

For clarification, this is the pacific carrier aviation GB…but, it is restricted to World War II?? If not, I may continue on with my original F-4 Phantom build as I plan on building one that supported carrier operations over Vietnam. What are your thoughts??

Thanks,

Dave

Well I’ve got some more progress on this beautiful bird. Not much, but progress is progress! Again sorry for the quality or lack there of the pictures…

First off, this is where I’m at in the glue stage with the fuselage, got it all closed up, when I get home from classes tomorrow I’ll see where I need to putty and get that taken care of.

Next up is the pilot figure…almost have all the painting done for him, just need to paint his face, then his boots, metal buckles, then a flat coat and a wash to give him some depth. I know the quality sucks, again I apologize, but you get the gist…

And here are a couple steps ahead dry fitting…everything looks like its gonna fit pretty decent so thats good…

Well there ya have it, I don’t think I’ll get enough done tomorrow to post pics…well maybe I can get the pilot done, who knows.

OH! I almost forgot…here are my eventual plans for this gal…

I built this zero in a weekend to kinda get back into the swing of things 6 months ago…

Well, when I started building her I thought, how cool would it be if I went back to my days of childhood and hung it on my ceiling? Well I decided to put a twist on it…I don’t know if you can tell but I turned the pilots head kinda to the left so he’s looking behind him and hung the zero up like this…

So if you’re not catching on yet…I have the zero in a downward left bank and I’m gonna hang this corsair up behind the zero and have a dogfight happening right when I walk in my room.

Question for you guys. Did the Fleet Air Arm opperate Mk. XV Seafires in the SE Asia theatre? If so, does anyone know where one could find decals for any of those units in 1/48? Thanks!

Josiah: Very cool idea for your Corsair. Everything is looking good and nice work on the pilot. Boy, that definitely brings back memories of my bedroom when I was younger. Every one of my airplane models were hung from the ceiling. I’ll be doing that again if I build all the kits in my stash. In fact not only will I be hanging them from my man cave ceiling but also from the living room, dining room. bathroom and kitchen’s also. Really don’t think that will fly with wife unit.[:D]

Hey Josiah,

I’ve been lurking in the wings of this GB, kickin’ around the idea of jumping in. Unfortunately, as a teacher, I don’t have a whole lot of free time. That and I already have two builds going in the Trainer GB. Maybe I can find some time to build a kit for this one, too.

Anyway, I just wanted to compliment you on your build and hopefully share what you’ll consider a helpful piece of info. On your Corsair, the instrument shroud (“dashboard”) should be black on the Corsair, and the cut out behind the pilot should be the same color as the fuselage exterior color. It’s an easy fix, but I wanted to see if I could share it with you before you got the transparencies glued on.

Anyway, hope my two cents help. Keep up the good work. Watching your build is tempting me to get out a PTO Corsair…

Cheers!

Thanks a lot Joe and O,

O-thanks a lot for correcting me on that, I do appreciate it and will certainly fix it…I know being a teacher certainly takes up a lot of time…I’m a college student so I don’t quite as much work as you, but if you do find the time after you get those builds out of the way I know I would enjoy your presence in this GB and I’m sure I can speak for everyone else in that as well…the more the merrier as they say!

Well I got some more progress today after class and work, got all it glued up and did a bunch of sanding,

Here’s my question, for an inflight bird the flaps would be up correct? The instructions have it so that all the flaps are down

as you can see, the tab fits in to make it down, so if the in-flight should be up I’ll just remove the tab and play with it but I need to know if it should be up or down…

thanks for any help and input guys
