Oooh! I’m going to be starting by Fujimi/Testors 1/48 F6F-5 this weekend! I’ll post progress pics here.
Joe: Woohoo! Look who’s here! Another one of those crazy 190 freaks!!!
Aurora: You can’t have enough kittens in a naval aircraft GB! Welcome aboard!
This looks to be the beginnings of a whopper of a GB there Clemens. Lots of good folks and kits!
Yeah, that’s what I thought as well. A lot of great guys here (including you!) and some nice subjects. I’ve decided what I’m going to build as well (finally…): I think I’ll give the big Tamiya Corsair a shot. It looks like a fun build without all that gimmicky stuff like moving landing gear that won’t fit properly (I’m looking at you, Tamiya Zero!) Mostly OOB with the only AM items being HGW seatbelts and some resin wheels…
Here’s my parts layout:
May have to replace the engine though-
I know it’s an old kit but I wasn’t expecting that!
Clemens, I’ve decided on an Eduard 1/72 F6F-3. I’ll probably use aftermarket decals to get some scheme I haven’t done previously in a Hellcat.
Cheers
Tony
Build roster is updated.
Hey Clemens! I think I want to jump into this GB too!! =D Only, it’ll be a short while till I can start as I’m quite busy with the NMF at the moment. But I’d like to submit a 1:48 Hasegawa SBD-3 Dauntless of either John J Powers or William E Hall. Since Powers died in The Battle of Coral Sea I’m having a hard time finding any kind of photo or info on his SBD but naturally there are plenty of Hall’s. So, that’s a call I’ll make later on I suppose.
Will that work?
Don’t worry about the time, there’s plenty of it left!
I put you and your Dauntless on the build list. You just reminded me that I still need to add one to my stash (I don’t have a single one - blasphemy, I know…).
"Shiv: I added you to the list!
Paul: Sorry, but this GB is for aircraft only…"
Paul, you could always do a kit of the Aichi M6A Seiran aircraft.
Rob: I regret that this is a bit belated but, I wanted to give you some love on that beautifully detailed cockpit. You have done a tremendous amount of work there and it turned out excellent.
Aurora: That is indeed a sparse engine representation. I will be curious to see how you enhance that.
Although I’m still a couple of weeks from being able to get started on my Corsair I have gathered all the parts and I am ready to go. I may not use all the parts you see here. It will all depend on how well I’m progressing as time goes by. Due to work, home responsibilities and other commitments it’s challenging for me to knock out a 1/48 aircraft in a years time. The Corsair has been at the top of my list for…well… forever. It is my all time favorite aircraft. That stems from the fact that my father flew the Corsair as a flight instructor out of Pensacola NAS during WWII. I will do my very best to finish within the GB timeline but should I not that will be alright as at least get to share this with you all. So, here we go.
Here is my reference library for the Corsair. Just a shameless demonstration of my fondness the bentwing bird.
Good grief, Joe! That’s going to be what I call a well pimped model! I don’t have as many AM goodies for any of my kits. The kit I’ll dress up the most when I finally get to building it is my Trumpy P-47:
- Eduard Big Ed: Contains masks and PE for gun bays, cockpit, cockpit placards, gear bays, exterior and engine.
- Aires Engine set
- Barracuda wheels
- Master gun barrels
- HGW seatbelts
AS you can see it barely comes close to that heap of AM stuff you have there and I’m talking about a 1/32 kit, so there are even more possibilities to pimp it.
JOE RIX: I’ll probably scavenge from another kit. I’ve looked at some aftermarket R-2800’s but I didn’t want to spend a lot for something I wasn’t going to show with opened panels. If use one of my Monogram P-61 or P-47 kits, I’ll need to modify the elliptical governors.
Hey Clemens! I guess my F-4 Phantom won’t cross over…put me down for this build, for sure. Not sure what the subject will be, most likely something in 1/48th scale, either of American or Japanese origin…more to follow.
Sure. Just tell me your kit of choice when you made up your mind and I’ll add it to your name.
Rob, that is a cool cockpit.
Hey Joe, I just placed an order at Hobbylink Japan for the Aero Detail book and Hasegawa’s P-47 and Bf 190 G-6 (those big Hasegawa kits are dirt cheap over there). Thanks for the tip on that book!
Id like to jump in if thats ok, bought Tamiya’s F4U-1 in 1/48 yesterday. I started it today but I dont have much done.
Sure, welcome aboard!
