PACIFIC CARRIER AVIATION GROUP BUILD

Here it is! The 2nd round of the Carrier GBs. The rules are are very similar to those in round 1.

This GB will start today, on January 3rd and end on December 31st, 2014

extended until March 31st, 2015!

Rules**:**

  1. Your project must be a plane designed to be used on a carrier. The particular aircraft you are building doesn’t have to be stationed on a carrier though (eg: a Corsair based on an airfield is completely fine).

  2. The aircraft you are building had to be used in the Pacific Theatre of operation.

  3. Aftermarket acessories or not, it’s your choice.

  4. Crossovers are allowed.

  5. Already started builds are ok, but please limit the construction to the fuselage halves being glued together.

  6. You can continue your project from the previous round here (rule 4 doesn’t apply in this case)

6)The most important “rule”: Have fun!

Badges:

I’ll upload some badges soon. Feel free to add one to your signature as soon as you start your build.

Cheers, Clemens

Wow! Hey Clemens I’ve got a quick idea/ request. Is there any way you can make this a Pacific Theatre Carrier Aviation GB? I’ve given alot of thought to building a Val later this year. You could include all the builds that weren’t finished in a GB titled as such as well. Just a thought.

That idea sounds good to me, but I don’t know if it’s that pratical. I sent you a PM…

I’ll drag over my Wildcat from round 2.

Clemens, please sign me up for my Monongram Devastator build.

Thanks, Rob

You’re on the list!

Ok I’m not sure when I will get started prolly late February but put me in for Airfix 1/72 Zero

Hello,

I would like to join you with a Tamiya I-400 submarine carrier.

Cheers,

Paul

Shiv: I added you to the list!

Paul: Sorry, but this GB is for aircraft only…

I’m interested, but the calendar is quickly filling in. If I do participate, it will be in the latter half of the year, unless I take the crossover route.

regards,

Jack

It sure would be nice to have you aboard, Jack!

Hi Clemens, I think my build will be a few months off too, but I’m happy to enter with a 1/72 something. I’ll decide a bit later on.

Cheers

Tony

I’d like in. Normally I’d bring my Wildcat over from the previous build, but since it was in the Atlantic scheme that just won’t do. I’ll do a 1/72 Academy F6F-3/5 most likely in the three tone scheme.

Just to make it good and official, I’ll give this kit a whirl!

Tony: Nice to have you in here!

Bud: Got you added to the list!

Hi guys.

Just thought I’d post a couple of pics of the Devastator cockpit. The itty bitty photoetch stuff for the control switches gave me fits, and I dont think I’d try using the teenie tiny pieces like those for any near future builds. The whole point of the exercise is to relax after all. At this point I only managed to lose one of them.

I’ve gone with an alumninum interior since, from what I have read, most Devastators were delivered with laquered aluminum finish and only the later deliveries received the green zinc chromate anti-corrosion coating. Since I have no further info one way or the other on which Devastators did or did not have the aluminum laquered interior, I’ve decided to stick with it based on some pre-war b&w photo’s I’ve found along with one arial colour photo.

Here is a picture of the rear-gunner’s radio equipment… sparse would be an understatement!

Since I have the GWH Devastator (Midway) in my stash, I figured I’d show a comparison with the much more detailed piece that comes with that kit.

The photo-etch interior for the GWH kit goes even further and completely replaces the plastic piece with several photo-etch parts.

Regards,

Rob

Looking nice, Rob! I have the GWH Devastator in my stash as well and it really has a great amount of detail…

Well Heck Clemens, since you made the caviat that it did not have to be a carrier based aircraft I believe I would love to join you all with a crossover build that I am doing for the 1944 GB. So, sign me up with my 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A Corsair with VF-17 markings operating out of Bougainville. I have yet to decide which particular aircraft I’m doing. I’ve been dying to build a Corsair as it is my all time favorite aircraft and my father flew them. I already have a load of AM goodies with additional parts enroute. I’ll post a pre game pic when I’ve got everything together. Thank You very much for letting me join you all. No doubt there is going to be some fun and fantastic builds to be had here.

Joe

**Rob:**Good grief thats alot of detail! Wow!

**Joe Rix:**Yippee! Joe’s here! Welcome to the GB buddy!
