Needed some supplies. But I was also scanning Ebay and grabbed this for a low price so I couldn’t pass it up.

Great scores @WhatIfRebel , @Aggieman and @Project510 .

I’ve got one of those P-40 kits and I really outta bring that puppy out at some point as it’s a great looking kit right there in the box.

I have a completed F-86, but I hadn’t realized there was a USMC variant, and I’m all about USMC Aviation. So once I heard about this kit, I just had to add it to the stable and picked it up on ebay for only $25!

Not a bad score at all for $25 Scott. Gonna have that one on the bench soon?

The FJ-2 and FJ-3 were F-86s with minor modifications for Marine/Navy use. The FJ-4 was a much different design including a new wing. I have this kit in the stash and and it looks great. The box art cracks me up because the pilot is tiny

Next up I think. I need a pallet cleanser after this F-4.

SprueBrothers had a sale on ResKit so I picked up the rotor head, tail rotor and blade fold restraint bits for my 1/48 Hasegawa SH-3H that I plan to do as Old 66 SH-3D Apollo recovery bird

Model Expo had a sale a month ago and I’d just got through re-reading @Luvspinball’s inspiring thread on his USS Constitution build. Three weeks later, this little guy showed up.

As I mentioned in that thread, I grew up at in Duluth, MN, at the Head of the Lakes, and have always considered it a maritime town; Gordon Bok, Bill Staines, and Stan Rogers continue to be my “home” music. So a Grand Banks Dory seems a fitting toe in the water, if you will.

Might be a while before it hits the bench but I’ve already dug through it and it seems achievable.

Oh, and this stick-and-tissue kit was on sale too, so it somehow made it into the cart…

Are you doing the Dory Challenge? Would be rewarding

Yeah, that’s too fun to pass up, right? You should do one too

I indeed have considered it

Somehow same thing happened to me  … I’m going to try a balsa-wood plane too. It’s been over 50 years since my last attempt. Wish me luck.

Yes! The big question is, I think, should we use traditional wood/PVA glue and take our time, or do the framing all in an afternoon with superglue?

 Decisions, decisions… (of course I’m not the one to ask, but…) for now planning on using wood glue. However, I don’t own the glue yet, soooo?

Glad I could be an inspiration. If you are talking about using PVA for the Dory, then yes. PVA gives you more time to position your pieces than CA. If you are referring to the plane, then your choice. I would probably stick with PVA, but if you plan on actually flying the thing, then CA is definitely quicker (but not necessarily stronger). CA is brittle over time, and I really don’t use it on anything wood - although balsa can hardly be considered “wood” (just my opinion). Busted up a bunch of those as a kid that I built with my dad. Balsa and the ground don’t mix well.
Either way, HAVE FUN !

Needed this like I need another hole in my head or broken bone. I haven’t ever looked for this kit, nor been a huge fan of the car, but for some reason I felt compelled to give this kit a new home.

Took the kids to a model contest about an hour south of town at https://bombercommandmuseum.ca/

They had the Lancaster outside and did the four engine run up, as well as a run up of the Hercules Radial (Halifax) and Bristol V12 (I believe). Was a good day out, but unfortunately I saw very little of the displays due to constantly overwatching the kids at the show.

This engine upgrade kit arrived today for the Catalina and I have to say, I’m highly impressed and glad I ordered it. The kit parts are okay but this… Wow!
