My stash, is this too many?

Rules to live by:

You can NEVER have;

To much money

A woman that is too pretty

A car that is too fast

or to many models in your stash.

Man law!

Well, I guess 2 out of five is not so bad…

Well, I never have too much money. did I get that one right? [D)]

John,

Which 2 of the 5??? [(-D] [swg] Careful how ya answer that!!!

Brian [C):-)]

Remember back in the days when a coat closet was actually used for coats?

Awww, i’m just jealous! I’ve only got about 8 kits in my stash, and to me that looks rather big. Now you’ve just derailed my whole belief system! [;)]

MAN LAW!!![#toast]

My stash is currently over 150…a friend of mine calculated that I’ll have them all done by the time I reach my 58th birthday.

I was round at my mates place the other day (he has seen my stash of kits already) and looked at his stash of 60+ models and said “You have waaayyyyyy too many kits here…” The look on his face was priceless![:D]

In my dotage I have learned the wisdom of no answer, grasshopper!

Hi.[:)]My name is Jim and my stash is currently at 50 and holding in the workroom closet(minus the 20 or so sitting around in various stages of completion).[:-^] Bought them over the years to have for my “retirement”. Well, I’m retired and building. The last one I bought was about 5 years ago. My wife has been telling me that I have too many and I should either build them or throw them out. Well, after seeing all these STASHES, she still thinks that I have too many, but I’m not AS crazy as she thought I was. She won’t touch the finished ones.[;)]

Jim[4:-)]

I’ve only got 3 right now up in the closet and 2 on the bench.[BH]

David

I just love this thread!!!

My stash is probably around 100 kits, though I haven’t actually counted. Mostly armor and sci-fi.

Some duplicate armor kits, though only of a handful of subjects and no more than three of each (Dragon 3-in-1 kits–gotta make all three versions, right? ).

Several duplicate sci-fi subjects, ranging from as few as 2 (AMT RELIANT) to more than a dozen AMT AT-STs. I paid full price for only a few of the sci-fi kits, though. Most were picked up on clearance at KB Toy Liquidators when AMT quit making Trek and SW kits. Most were $3.99-$5.99 (the AT-STs were $1.99 each, hence 12+ of them)

Enough for a small imperial army, eh? haha Get some Ewoks and some speeders and you’ll have a scene!

28 Blackbird kits!?[:O] I didn’t think the USAF ever had that many Blackbirds in total!

Quite an impressive assortment actually, Darwin. I see you have the old Revell/Crown 1/144 smooth nose B-52H kit; some sweet memories there, I think that was the second kit I ever built. I hung it from my bedroom ceiling right near the Monogram 1/72 Snap Tite F-4 Phantom that was my first kit ever; some serious fighter escort for a 1/144 BUFF![(-D]

But I digress…

I quit stashing quite a while ago, I was given to impulse buying (to a MUCH smaller degree still am) and I’d see a piece of plastic eye candy in the LHS, snap it up and a few months later ask myself “Why on Earth did I buy THAT!?”

Eventually my stash, to a large extent, got given away to Goodwill, thrift shops, kids clubs or handed off otherwise. I actually find kits sitting around unbuilt to be rather de-motivating; only thing worse is too many kits sitting around partially built.

I can’t have a very big stash in my current accomodations (got two on the go and four unbuilts waiting) I have a stash of about 15-20 unbuilts and partial builds in boxes back at my mom’s place in Canada.

I’m very careful about what and how I buy these days, I REALLY have to want it to buy it. I look at the new release announcements on the net and in magazines and plan ahead a bit. Initially, a lot of things on a new release list will give me a “Gotta have it!” buzz, but if I give it some time after seeing the list, many of those buzzes tended to be just the momentary type.

As it is right now, I don’t plan on plunking any money down for a kit until the 1/72 Special Hobby/Xtrakit Sea Vixens hit the shelves (I heard that was July or August sometime). I might peek into RoG’s upcoming 1/72 Fairey Gannet when it hits shelves, but it would have to be really something special for me to buy it. I’ve got the old Frog Gannet in the works and have scratchbuilt quite a bit into it plus obtained some aftermarket for it, so if the new RoG one doesn’t include a whole lot more than what I’m sticking in the Frog one, I’ll probably pass on it just as I did with the Trumpeter Gannet.

My current stockpile (Czech Republic only[;)]):

Frog 1/72 Fairey Gannet (in progress)

Streem 1/72 Sukhoi SU-24 “Fencer” (in progress)

RoG 1/144 BAe 146

Xtrakit 1/72 Gloster Meteor 8

RoG 1/72 FW-190 A8

PlusModel 1/35 Lanz Bulldog 35hp. farm tractor

I would’nt say that you have too many. I have 500 plus in my stash and of that 30 to 40 are AT-6, SNJ, and Harvard kits in 1/48th. I see a sweet AT-6 in your stash and those always make me salivate. When will they create a cure for plastic addiction? My name is Larry and I am severely addicted.

As I have said in other posts, my stash has grown over 30 years due to my procrastination. If a new kit comes out that I’m interested in, I get it when I can find it on sale. I may sell a couple on ebay, in the future, and what doesn’t get built, becomes the kid’s inheritance.

I’m glad I saw this post I had to show my wife she thought I was nuts withthe amount I have. I’m in the 300+ club My friend did the math and a 1 modle a month it would take me over 17 years to empty my stash I blame this on having a good job that lets me afford my hobby. having too much time on my hands when not working for ebay and 3 only being able to build maybe 3 modles every 4 months so I feel you you guys with the big stash’s

Actually, Lockheed built 15 A-12’s, 3 YF-12’s and 31 SR-71s. The CIA owned all of the A-12s and NASA/Lockheed/USAF swapped ownership back and forth on the YF-12s. The USAF theoretically owned all the SR-71s, but the first 6 stayed at Lockheed Palmdale and Edwards AFB as test birds.

I remember a time when I bought a model kit, I would have it built in a matter of days. Now I’m lucky to complete one after several months and so my collection keeps growing. One reason is my wanting to detail out a model instead of simply building it out of the box, it has really slowed me down.

DesertRat,

You need to go on more missions that allows TDY pay so that you can start collecting more kits. 8 IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Or better yet, volunteer to be stationed in Korea, where Academy kits are reasonably priced. [:D]
