I definately have a sickness. I have a computer list of the models in my stash and it is well over 300 and the kits were stored all over the house. They were in the closets, under the bed, on shelves in the model room and assorted other places. The computer list gave me an accurate number, but I decided to consolidate them all in one area. I bought a couple of shelf units and put the rest in a two door cabinet. Once I had them all together and could look at the pile as whole, I was really shocked at just how big it was. Some of these kits have been around for quite while. I noticed a 1/72 Hasegawa RF-101C with a LHS price of $1.69 and a 1/48 Monogram P-47D for $3.50!
Yardbird…
300 plus? Mate, I know a few people who have a stash list numbered 1000 plus…THAT’S probably a little excessive…
Is YOUR stash too big? Dunno - do you want to build those kits, or are they bought as collector’s items?
If you never intend to build them, maybe it’s time to have a bit of a “cull”…weed out kits you know you’ll never build.
Will this “cull” lead to empty shelves that you’ll feel a need to fill up again? Probably…LOL.
I stopped buying kits a couple of years ago (I’m at about 100 unbuilt kits) and plan on building all the kits in my stash - can’t afford any more storage space - plus, at the rate I build my personal kits (90% of the builds I complete are contract builds) I’ll have to live until I’m 147 years old to build everything I’ve got.
Good Luck!!
I have about 10 models in my stash. I can understand the addiction of buying models, and I certainly believe it grow pretty fast. But here’s my question: Why keeping 5 times the exact same model?
I usually only buy a kit when Im ready to build it…or close to finishing my current project. Ive been working on a P-51D for a while, ive had it for 4 years. Im pretty close to getting ready to start putting the cockpit, etc… inside the fuselage and glueing it together. But, I still have some small details to finish before I get ready to start putting the whole thing together.
I still have a P-47 and BF-109 which im trying to put a motor in. But, I am in college and work the weekends…so I dont have the time needed to do alot of models.
If want all of yours to be built “one day” you should be teaching your family everything you know so they can carry on the hobby for generations…cause thats probably how long it would take to build them all…lol
that is quite an impressive collection though, im sure some of the OOP models could be worth alot some day.
You got a lot of kits there, to bad there are so many kit’s of the same plane, don’t make no sense, unless you’re opening a hobby shop. Maybe you can send some to the troops in Iraq.[#dots] I’m sure they would appreciate it
I’ll have to agree with Yann Solo. I understand the addiction to the point of buying multiple kits that are exactly the same. Maybe if it was one plane that you had multiple kits of because you planned to build multiple versions of the same kit, but man, you have many kits that are the same. I would have to wait until I built one of those kits of the same plane before buying another. My addiction is seeing different planes/kits that I would like to build. But I at least draw the line when I already know I have the kit, lol. You look like a store there, lol.
I have three right now in my stash. I usually only keep two or three. That kind of money gets used in other places. Don’t ever see myself getting to that point [xx(]
My 30-year stash had also spread throughout the house and my wife made me get everything out from under the bed a couple of months ago. Pretty much limited now to my half of our walk-in closet and two shelf units in the garage. I have no idea how many.
Hard to miss when you walk into the garage are the boxes for four 1/32 Tomcats, six 1/32 Phantoms, and two 1/96 USS Constitutions. Plus I’m getting more involved in wooden ship modeling and have a couple of those stacked beside the workbench. Got some dirty looks from my wife yesterday when a box full of basswood strips arrived from Model Expo…
You are definately certifiable and you need to start a local chapter of Modelers Anonymous. Your opening line of the first meeting is, “Hi, my name is Darwin and I have too many models, but I haven’t bought another one for a whole week.”
I noticed the same multi kits too. To each his own I guess. I have a modest stack of 30 or so and no dupes. I figure that there are so many different subjects, I’d never have the time to build all of them, so that leaves dupes out for me. I want variety.
I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one with over 300 kits in my stash. Now I can tell my wife that there are others who are even worse than I am when it comes to collecting kits! [:D]
Hi, my name is Steve and I have too many models. hehehehehehe. My stash is currently at 135 and for some reason is still growing. Bought one today, ughhhh. My stash ranges from my oldest kit I bought in 1969( still need to get around to that one) for 0.75c till the one today. I have them in one closet in my office and I have no dupes. By the way yardy if ya want to get rid of one of those F-84F’s I have a home for it.LOL
I see alot of the same kits , i guess you could build lots of different versions that way. Wish my stash was bigger as its hard to find kits to buy here other then on the net.
