I love these threads and I love seeing everyone else’s stash piles. I always learn something new about who released what back in the old days.
My current stash is probably around 60+ but half of it was given to me by a friend whose diebetes is in advanced stages so he can’t build himself anymore. That should keep me busy for at least 6+ years at my current rate but somehow I don’t think that will keep me from buying more in the near future. [:-,]
1 there is nothing wrong with many duplicates of certain models
example an f-4 phantom they can be made as many different countries dozens of diff paint schemes etc
but you have more blackbirds in your stash them the us airforce and it can only be make one way
2 as far as having a large stash i see only one reason not too
if you were 60 plus yrs old with 500 models to build and no one to pass them on to that would be the only reason i could see to not have a big one
about two yrs ago ( i missed it[V] ) my bro went to an estate sale a box the size of a washing machine full of models was marked as sold, he ask the lady she sold it for 20 bucks
this old guy had no one to pass the stuff on to and the lady had no idea what a massive loss she was taking
haha, congrats
Thats why I started modeling, my dad would build them. He built a F-15 and I remember thinking how cool and realistic he made it look. I still had it several years later(though, pretty banged up from us kids playing with it) I was amazed that there wasnt much detail put into it. But as a kid it was the coolest thing…lol
Well i started building up my stash 40 yrs ago and now its in the hundreds of kits and i’m 62 !!!I have two sons and neither of them build models .So will i get rid of them ? NO! Why should i ? You could have a stash and be in your 20’s , 30’s or whatever and get knocked off tommorow and then what ? I’m going to enjoy my stash till the day i die if possible , some of those kits are nostalgic to me and i will never build them . Thats what makes me happy now ! .After i die , if nobody in the family wants them , this old guy will have them donated to those that serve our country , thats my plan.[^]
I know people whose stahes are in the thousands!!! I have about 70, I will be offloading some at the NSW Expo and Scale Model show. I have also given away kits to a friend’s son to do, and they really appreciated them.
Looks like only modeling that I’ll be participating for next several months is re-modeling our guest room into a Baby room. Can’t wait! I hope that I can turn JR into a modeler as well. My father built me models when I was a child so I could play with them and now it is my turn to build for kids.
Hey thats great. [dinner]My son is three now and is allready "helping me " build models. Snap kits are great for the little guys to build and play with.
My son is turning 16 in a couple of months and never displayed any interest in modeling. I can live with that, though, since he is healthy, and (for a teenage boy) a good kid. He’s into sports and stays away from the bad elements on his own, so I’m not complaining. Except about the X-box - he and that blasted console have taken over the extra room (with the help of my wife) that I originally planned on setting up as my modeling den.
My daughter doesn’t want to build models either. But she does like to watch me try to win eBay auctions (she also likes to try to distract me during the final few minutes) and then does a little victory dance if I win. Then she runs off to tell my wife the good news … and then there’s [censored] to pay. [sigh]
And for you guys who seem to be cranking out the junior modelers right now - I can’t begin to describe to you the amazing years ahead of you. It is true - they do fly by way too fast, so be sure to have a camera handy at all times. And a tape recorder too, just in case. You never know what’s going to happen, and afterwards it’s no consolation to wish you had been ready with something to capture the moment. I use the tape recorder for arguments and tantrums and similar moments - when a video camera is not recommended and a tape recorder can be concealed. Because someday you can use it to show your kids that their kids behave just the way they used to.
I went through that almost a year and a half ago! We finished the baby’s room a week or so before he was born.
I haven’t gotten much modeling done in the last 16 months, either, but that’s not all our son’s fault. I’m finishing my masters degree this semester, so I’m really darned busy.
In any event, congratulations! Blessings on both of you. [:)]
I currently have a stash of about 40 or so…The only kits I’ve built multiples of is F-4 Phantoms (7), F-15’s (3), F-100’s (3), and F-105’s (3). But what I’m really concerned about is this feeling of euphoria I get when looking at other people’s stashes!! It’s like opening presents on Christmas morning! Take now, for instance. I’m sitting in a college classroom while my class is taking their final exam (I’m a math professor) and just really enjoying looking through all those kits!
I know, I know…it’s not fair. Here I’m having so much fun while my students are slaving over matrices and functions!![(-D]
Durr my Shell was thin that day and i had to blow off some "old guy " steam .[:D] Thanks for your reply ! At 50 your almost an “old guy” yourself ![#toast]
