Eduard and Wingsy are of the highest tier in modern modelling imo. Eduard Profipack interiors are spectacular out of the box and the best bang for the buck in one package. I have never been a fan of Tamiya and their over simplification of details making me spend more on am than the price of the kit. Fitment is always great, but just too thick and bulky with minimal detail. Check out the Wingsy kits and give them a shot. Incredible detail and accuracy.

Great work. I like your take on the cockpit color. I think straight Tamiya XF-71 would be closer to a Nakajima cockpit color than Mitsubishi, but probably not a good match for either

Eduard details are spectacular indeed! I was looking at zero rivet lines references during the holidays, planing to add them myself like I did with my previous Tamiya. Little was I suspecting they were actually already on the parts

As for the fit yeah, I might have used the wrong words : pieces fit very well. The hard part is getting them in place ! The little helpers are very small and discreet, the instructions are sometimes a bit foggy ( had trouble with the left hand horizontal instruments panel that was protuding from the cockpit tub until I realized there was a little stop-gap under it, so small I entirely missed it ). Eduard is often branded “advanced kits”, that may be one of the reason.
I glued the fuselage today, and I suddenly I understood I actually had to push the cockpit not straight ahead but rather in two steps : push the front into position first, then the back, it will fit neatly. Phew !
So far so good.

I’ll see if I can find some wingsy kits around here. I want to sample the brands. Airfix, Academy, Meng, now Wingsy… So many, so many.

I find it pretty crazy what an extra $10-15 will get you in detail and quality. About 85% of my collection is Eduard and the remainder is Wingsy and Accurate Miniatures. I am extremely hard pressed to build anything else because of how great these kits are. Eduard isnt perfect though, for as high of praise I give them. My BF110’s have quite a few issues.

Now that I finished the Ki-84, I broke out this shelf queen (Tamiya 1/72 ki-61) and started working on it again. It was not a shelf queen due to any fault of the kit – just a mental block on my part , indecision regarding markings and things like that… This is the first kit I want to finish for this GB. I started it for the Japanese GB XII back in 2022!

Ah cool - a Tony. I just got the 1/48 Tamiya kit for Christmas. Nice pit, especially in 1/72!

Would like to join the group. Will build the Tamiya 1/700 Zuikaku my wife got me for Christmas.

I’d like to throw my name in the hat with Tamiya 1/35 Type 97 late. Just in the finishing stages
of the 97 early, so that will be a good follow-on. Literally a shake and bake kit!

Phew life got in the way lately. In bad and happy ways!
I should finally move out of my Paris flat to an actual house, which I am very excited for, where I should be able to finally get a dedicated place for the hobby. It came at the cost of the grandma ( 100 this year ! ) moving to a nursing home since it’s actually her house I’ll be buying.

But we’re not here for this, so on to the model : it’s been sitting mostly untouched for weeks as I was waiting for parts to come in, which took almost two month for a lot of very infuriating reasons, including lost package, unavailable product despite marked in stock, a bit of snow, and to top it all, parts that finally came in… broken. Nice !

So I finally got to priming yesterday, and I should have waited a bit because I got too hasty and sprayed too dry, resulting in most of the topside of the plane to get grainy and dusty. I suspect there was also actual dust involved, probably disturbed by the airflow.

Ah well. Sanding and smoothing, here we go again.

A6M is looking good. Nothing a 3000 grit Tamiya Sanding Sponge can take care of :+1:

Well, I’ve been coming to the FSM Forums for nearly a year now… Let’s play!

Time to take on my first aircraft kit in over 25 years. This will be a bit of a test bed before taking on some more sentimental aviation projects…

Here’s my entry. Hope to start tomorrow. If it’s like the early Type 97, just snap my fingers and it is done!
