Gojira tank! I built that kit back in middle school. But I didn’t melt it with a blowtorch like the Toho Studio guys!
I was at a department store in Tokyo in 2016 and found an aftermarket set that had white metal exhausts and PE screens. It was weird because I was thinking of looking for that set, and it was right there! I currently have the reissued kit that has a few new bits and options for a camouflaged tank.
Are you going to replace the belt-type tracks with aftermarket? IIRC the inside faces are blank on the kit parts. Maybe I’m wrong. I know the M41 walker Bulldog’s tracks are blank inside.
Just going to use the kit included tracks. There’s an aftermarket set coming out this year but I’m not thrilled about spending more than what I paid for the kit on tracks. I’d rather just buy the Fine Molds kit at that point which looks to be a much nicer kit then the old Tamiya kit.
Type 61 ready for a bath and then primer. May replace the tank commander with one from Fine Molds since his pose makes him look like he’s had too much sake.
Calling this one as, DONE!! Hasegawa, 1:48 scale, Mitsubishi F1M2, Type 0, Model 11, Reconnaissance Float Plane, Reporting Name, “Pete”.
GREAT little model kit! Probably one of Hasegawa’s best kits to date. This model is an OOB project and yes, the earlier releases came with a stainless steel PE fret. Everything lines up right from the jump. No shimming, no removing detail to get things to fit. The port side PE isn’t even glued in as the spring tension is keeping it tightly in place, ( I will glue it just to make sure…).
Decals are from the kit and reacted well to the usual common setting solutions. Markings are for a machine flying from HMIJS Sanyo Maru, December 1941.
Great kit, great subject and I highly recommend it. If you stay away from biplanes due to rigging, (Like me), this is a great first timer to take a chance with.
Thanks for looking everyone and have a great day, y’all!
Outstanding looking Pete , Freddie! Congratulations, I think you are the first to complete a model in this GB. Which picture do you want me to use on the roster page?
Doh, That reminds me, any volunteers to create a badge for the GB?
Wow that turned out fantastic. I’ve been eyeballing this kit for some time as I have a thing for float planes but as you mentioned, I have an irrational fear of biplanes. Your comments are encouraging. Again - great job.
So, since I did finish the build of Hasegawa’s F1M2, “Pete”, I have now started on another Hasegawa kit, a Nakajima, Ki-44II, Koh, Army Type 2 Fighter, Allied Reporting Name, “Tojo”.
This is a MUCH older kit than the previous build, (Pete) and it is lacking in a lot of the detail that made the “Pete” such a great kit. However, this is a REALLY nice little model and it fits together very well. I am really enjoying this kit and I’ll probably have to get another one at some point…
Anyway, I am going to try and use the kits decals. They look to be in decent shape, but I am not sure how they will behave with the usual setting solutions. Plus, they seem thick.
Markings are for a machine from 2nd Chutai, 85th Hiko-Sentai and flown by Capt. Wakamatsu Yukiyoshi, Jogai Airfield China 1943.
Build is moving faster than I had anticipated and I am getting close to throwing paint at her. More pictures to follow soon!
The Pete came out great and the Tojo looks great too! I feel like I’m building a complete glue bomb in comparison!
This will be my first completion since early 2020, and the re-learning curve has been steep! It’s starting to look like a fighter. I like this aircraft so much that I went ahead and got the fine molds version. It’s looks to have some more detail, and hopefully I will have improved enough to do it justice. But, first I have to finish this one!
