to repeat i didn’t start this on the first and i don’t build this fast though sometime in the future i wll do a 3 day weekend build of something simple.
combination of almost empty primer can , not shaking it well etc and i have a real rough finish. looks ok and better this than a boat or plane. misplaced the rear holder fror the log so made a new one. overall MMA mdeium green for NVA.
indy tracks took a day. they fit loose so i primed the individual links and that helped some. good discussion in armor about glueing indy tracks that helped a lot. this is why i do warwheels.
will do washes today and build a base so i don’t break the tracks and add tow cables and call it done and ready for display on wed.
Tony, that’s coming on nicely. I think metal barrels will defiantly be the way to go.
wayne, that’s looking great. I do like the look of the SP AA systems, hence why I am such a fan of the German ones. The museum will no doubt be very proud to have that on display.
Eagle, just watch out for those gator’s. Only you can edit the roster, so we can’t lose you to a big set of jaws just yet.
calling this done. pin wash needs work and the weathering is tamiya powders. the tow cable is a fake flower stem. the base is coffee grounds, i think, or tea leaves with the jungle stuff 2 different plant moss type stuff from the craft store.
It looks great, I like the finish a lot. I’ve got some other brands, but haven’t tried the Tamiya powders. how do you find them ? Are they easy to use ?
Do you do anything other than dry out the tea leaves or coffee grounds prior to using them ?
just took a whiff in my material jar and this is coffee. painting too much on sunday to have a clear head. the wood is a plaque from the craft store and 40% off coupon. this time, since i wanted a flat surface, i used liquidtex. i mixed it with burnt umber and black cheap artist acrylic so it was close to coffee color. spread it on and , while stil wet, put on the coffee grounds. turned it over and dumped loose in the box and went back and added where it didn’t stick. spritzed it with water and stuck it under a 100w incandescent globular space heater. used white glue to add the foilage afetr it dried.
some tamiya powders “stain” better than others. have to be real careful with the rust. adheres better than pastels but also harder to correct mistakes. i have some others i need to try.

You might want to clean your camera lens…seems to be a dirt/dust spot in the lower right of every pic. A tissue dipped in Windex or rubbing alcohol should remove it.
after i primed them i hooked 15 or so links together and painted with mma steel. was working on a DD and just painted the lower hull hull red and figured why not and did the tracks too. probably to rusty for realism as was pointed out on another thread but artisticaqlly i think it looks nicer.
Exhibit A: Airfix 1/72 Bloodhound Missile, launcher and ground crew. By all accounts (internet research) this is one Airfix kit in their vehicle range that is actually 1/72, not 1/76.
Kit includes a grossly simplified Land Rover, ground crew (3 in identical pose), officer, sentry, and faithful guard dog:
Exhibit B: Revell’s box-scale (approx. 1/40) Nike Hercules Missile with launcher and crew.
Quite a nice decal sheet as well, though most of the emblems for the missile itself were more widely used on the earlier Nike Ajax than on the Hercules.
Detail on both the launcher and missile body looks quite nice, though I’m sure the structure of the launcher is somewhat simplified:
Ground crew is rather better than the Airfix blokes, though the photo doesn’t show the large sinkholes in the spines of 2 of the 3:
Modeling time has been non-existent lately, but I hope to make a start soon.
Nice choice of subjects Greg. I haven’t seen those built before.
My garage is chock full of new kitchen (to be installed this week) so I haven’t been able to spray some other projects, hence I’ve made good progress on my 1/48 Wirbelwind.
Construction is as far as I can go without spraying. All parts are off the sprue with the exception of the tracks, which I will do today.
The Flak38 assembly and turret are just sitting in place for the photo, and the upper hull is sitting on the lower hull for the same reason. I won’t screw them together until the interior of the turret is painted, and the wheels and tracks are fully assembled and painted.
I do have another Panzer IV kit available, and have had thoughts of using it with a Kubelblitz conversion that I have. There’s also the Tamiya Mobelwagen kit and an Ostwind conversion available as well. I have had thoughts of trying to close out five entries all on the Panzer IV chassis, but I’m stumped for a fifth. On the other hand, I could build some others from the stash instead, Coelian Panther, Crusader Mk III AA etc. I guess I’ll have to find some time either way.
Tony, nice progress. Are these other options all in 48th scale. There is another option for a Mobelwagen, the one with the Quad 20mm as in the Wirbelwind. There was only one built and it never saw service, but its still a Duck Hunter.
Apart from the Crusader, I have all those in 35th, with the Ostwind and Kugelblitz already built. It would be nice to see all those Pz IV AA vehicles together.
Interesting looking kits Greg. Hopefully you can find some building time soon.

I’ve added some zimmerit to my 1/48 Wirbelwind using Tamiya putty and primed the whole thing with flat black. Good news is that my spraying area in the garage is accessible again.
Bish - do you know of any detail photos of the four gun Mobelwagen ? I did find one photo via google but it’s a bit limited.
