Duck Hunter GB

Finally, the build you have all been waiting for. This is the build thread for the Duck Hunter AA GB.

This came about as an idea for a Flak Panzer GB in the Steel cats thread. But I have decided to expand the idea to all forms off Anti Aircraft systems. Eagle90 has kindly agreed to co host the GB and will be handling the build roster and completed build pics.

And a big thanks to waynec for coming up with a great idea for a title.

So, the rules.

To enter the GB, your build must be either an AA weapon, or something used to locate, detect or track aircraft. So this would include radar, searchlights sound detectors or anything else.Weapons can be guns or rockets. Your build can be self propelled, towed, fixed in place, shoulder launched or ship mounted.

The only thing it can’t be is an aircraft.

Any scale and from any period. What if projects allowed.

Build OOB or add as much as you want.

Cross overs allowed.

You can sign up at anytime from now until the end of the GB.

Hunting Season will open on Sept 1st and run for 8 months. Ending on 30th April 2014. Please note, this is pretty fixed. Please be sure that barring unforeseen circumstances, you can begin any build you put your name down for.

Most importantly, progress pics are a MUST

Now, the badges. This is the initial badge that you can take and display as soon as you sign up.

Once you compete your first build, you can replace that with this.

Two builds.

And so on, you get the idea. And for those who build 5, in any scale, you get a special Golden Duck sent to you. I know, tempting isn’t it.

So lets show those pesky wingy things they can’t have it all their own way.

Any questions feel free to ask Eagle or myself.

Seeing as Tony is on his way to number 3, here are the badges for 3 & 4 builds.

Sounds like a quacking good idea! (I won’t say I’m sorry.)

I’d like to throw in with two to start:

Airfix 1/72 Bloodhound missile

Revell 1/40 Nike Hercules.

(BTW, I love the idea of “victory duckies” on the badge. Truly twisted.)

Gregbale, welcome aboard! No need to be sorry, I thought it funny! Got you on the list. Is that Nike the History Maker?

3 more and you can earn the Golden Duck!

Thanks. The Nike is the recent re-release, but the same (old) kit.

I decided to start out fairly small-scale; at this point the coveted “Golden Duck” is just a distant, glittering dream…[;)]

Greg, welcome aboard. Of course I have heard of Bloodhound, but not the Nike. I had to look it up. Unusual scale as well. It will be great to see these two.

twisted, well that’s how my mind works [;)]

Hey dreams come true!

I have both the History Maker (already built it) and the re-release. Look forward to seeing your builds! The Bloodhound is another I have been thinking about getting!

Eagle90

Thanks Bish and Eagle!

The Nike actually has a sort of nostalgic connection for me. I grew up in Chicago in the 60’s, and the Chicago area was literally ringed by Nike launch and command sites, including one (C-80) quite close to our area. It wasn’t uncommon to see the Nikes, since, apparently, part of the purported deterrent value was to make it clear to the Soviets that they were there and ready. They were surprisingly high-visibilty.

As for the Airfix Bloodhound—I just always thought it was cool.

I just checked some pics, its a cool looking weapon.

Now that is cool! I like the stories behind why someone does a build and this is cool. You don’t have any pics of this from your youth do you?

Eagle90

I must be insane for joining this one as well, but apparently I am, so count me in!

What am I building?

My project for this will be a 1/35th diorama. I never tried to do this, so it’s going to be interesting.

It depicts an SdKfz.251 towing a Flak 36. The 251 is used for this task, because there was no other vehicle available to tow the gun. The gun will be attached to the 251’s towing hook by a chain or towing cable, because the 251 wasn’t capable to tow such a big gun, so I suppose that the 88 can’t be attached by using the hook.

Here are the kits I’m going to use for this:

I’m going to build this kit without the “bridge” (is it even one?), but with the AT gun.

Gun shield oro no gun shield? That’s the question here…

Cheers, Clemens

Alas, no. But if you Google “Nike Hercules Chicago,” you can see quite a lot of it. The launch site on Montrose Beach (where the Yacht Club is now) is particularly surreal.

Oddly, my memories of the Nike stuff are anything but sinister. It was just part of the everyday scene. And of course as kids we thought the missiles looked way-cool.

Count me in I will be doing ( hopefully all of them) Dragon 1/35th ZSU-23-4V1 Shilka, Tamiya M42 Duster and Tamiya M247 SGT York.

Welcome aboard guys. eagle will add you shortly. A nice selection there jbell. Even though Soviet armour isn’t my thing, I have been tempted to get the ZSU 23-4 for a while, such a nice looking weapon system.

Clemens, indeed that is an assault bridge on the side of that vehicle. The /7 was an engineer assault vehicle. Are you building the halftrack as part of this GB or leaving that part for the halftrack.

I planned on building both vehicles for this GB, if you don’t mind. I have something else planned for the Halftrack GB and 2 months is way too little time for a halftrack and a dio base…

Glad to have you on Clemens! Got you listed. Can’t wait to see the dio!

Eagle90

JBELL30, wow! What a great line-up! You listed and ready! Only 2 more and you can get the Golden Duck!

Eagle90

If I had more and was crazy enough I might…will have to see what else I can come up with

If I build a FIM-92 Stinger, add it to a vehicle, would that count for this build?

If I built the M-1097, would that get me the golden duck?

I have one of these barely started www.tamiyausa.com/…/german-20mm-flakvierling-38-32554 can I join?
