Duck Hunter GB

Nice work Tony.

Photo’s of that version are limited, but then so are photo’s of the 3.7cm version. These are the most well known ones that appear in most books.

As far as I know the upper part is the same as the 3.7cm gun. But this version was only on the older hull, with the 4 top rollers.

If you want, I can scan the Tamiya instructions for the 35th kit and send them to you at the weekend.

There is yet another Pz IV Flak version, the Ostwind II. That never left the drawing board, but I would like to add that to complete the Pz IV Flak collection.

Tony & Bish: FYI - the Moebelwagen with the Vierling gun was a one-of - it never went into production and was dismantled and rebuilt with the 3,7cm gun.

Thanks Greg.

I think I saw something that said there were five Kubelblitz’s built as prototypes too, although they may have seen service at the end of the war. I’d love to know what the camo was like.

Looks like I’ll have to get into these prototypes if I’m to complete five duck hunters based on the Panzer IV.

I took a look at the Verlinden Kubelblitz conversion last night. It just requires a bit of surgery to the upper hull to make it fit. The guns are deplorable though, I’ll have to look for turned metal barrels.

I’ll post some pics soon, might as well strike whilst I’m keen.

Cheers

Tony

Tony: Look for the Dragon Kugelblitz kit, instead of the Verlinden conversion

Hi Greg,

Thanks, but I want 1/48 not 1/35.

Cheers

Tony

I just bought a Mobelwagen, think I’m hooked.

Well, I started on the M247 Sgt York a few days ago. I have the Eduard p-e set, but I think I’ll save it for a “production” version using an M60 hull as opposed to the M48 in this kit.

Here’s the unfinished hull pics:

Here’s the underside with the motorization holes filled in Now to work on the turret…

Tony, according to Panzer Tracks, two were built in Feb 45, but I have not seen any mention of them entering service. You can really do them in what ever scheme you like. I certainly have not seen any photo’s of them.

Nice start on the York.

Wayne - Beautiful job on the ZSU-23/4. Hope your club display at Wings Over The Rockies is a great success!

Tony - The Wirbelwind is shaping up nicely. Do you use a special tool for the zimmerit, or just “wing it”?

Greg H - Nice work on the M247. Are you going to use the kit scheme, or do you have something special in mind?

Got a little basic construction work done on the Bloodhound. I figure I’ll add a little plumbing to the launcher, a basic interior and a few external details to the Land Rover.

Have a great weekend, all!

Greg: I’m going with the plain-jane OD. A former co-worker was trained on the M247 prior to it being scrubbed, he said the ones he crewed were just green.

Your Bloodhound looks good so far.[Y]

Thanks Bish and Greg. The info on the Kugelblitz is timely. I started it last night. Here’s the fun bit.

It was really just a case of tidying up the resin which was pretty OK, opening out the turret hole a little and mounting the ball turret.

I don’t think the 3cm Flak 103/38 guns are available as turned barrels in this scale. Verlinden give a length of plastic tub, but its not rigis enough, so I might use microtube, then hollow out the resin Verlinden muzzles.

I just depress a tiny screw driver into some softened Tamiya putty to make the zimmerit pattern. The AFV Club Sturmtiger kit that I built a couple of years ago had a little photoetched zimmerit rake, but it was still overscale for 1/48 so I don’t use it.

Cheers

Tony

I got some time in this AM on the turret…

there is so many issues with this kit, it’s not worth spending the time to make the corrections. [:(] Maybe Tamiya or Trumpeter will do the kit right in the near future.

Nice progress guys.

Tony, can I just confirm that you are doing all 5 Pz IV AA variants in 1/48th scale. We only have you down for the Wirbelwind at the moment.

got part of the superstructure to the USS Momsen finished. The radar panels will go on after all the painting is done.

hope to get the other part of the superstructure finished this week end

shiv, thats 700 scale right. That’s some fine detail there. Does the PE come with the kit or is that AM.

Great work e eryone! I’m in the states already, so I have only limited access to the forum…

Yes the ship is 700 scale and the kit comes with 2 sheets of PE. Overall length of the model is 9 3/4 inches

Nice work Shiv.

Bish - I’d rather add them one at a time if that’s ok. You can add the Kugelblitz now. I’d rather do that than not complete some of them, if that happens to be the case.

BTW, the Kugelblitz is ready for some primer now.

Cheers

Tony

No worries Tony, sounds like a plan. I will message eagle just in case he misses this. I know he is having some well deserved family time so it could be a few days between visits. One thing I didn’t realize until I built the 35th kit was that the turret was a complete ball, with no access to the hull. With 3 crew in there and all the other equipment and ammo, it must have been a tight squeeze.

shiv, that’s certainly nice work.

got the deck painted and decaled and finished the superstructure. Hull and superstructure still need paint and the small pieces need to be added to the deck. Don’t have the shade of grey I need so have to wait till my LHS opens tomorrow. Nothing is glued yet.
