welcome aboard! We’re honored that this is your first GB…hopefully you will find it as enjoyable as many of the GB’s I;ve been in. We’ve got a great group of modelers and a neat topic. I’m also glad we’ve now got a Condor in the fleet! I have been eyeing the 1/48 Trumpeter version, but am scared by the size! Where would I put it?
Anyways, liks Scott says, please share your thoughts and pictures as you build. And any tips, comments, advice, etc., you have for the others as we go are appreciated. Many of the GB members are Luftwaffe savvy people (espins and carsanab for sure), so ask questions as you go, too.
Feel free to add the GB badge on page 1 of this post to your signature bar, as you are now officially a full fledged BomberGruppe GB member (That and $0.50 will buy you a cup of coffee at Speedway).[:D]
The Storch paid a visit to my house and left me a little bundle of joy!!! A bouncing baby He-177 and as any proud father would say never seen anything so beautiful!!!
MY OH MY DO I HAVE A HANDFULL HERE!!! Looks incredible, the amount of cockpit detail…I cant wait…just the instructions are 22 pages!!..and Mucker even found the camo scheme I want to do… more airbrush mottling!!
Got a couple of reference books too all on german bombers. Feel free to askif you need or are looking for info. They have images of Ju 88’s He-111 and color schemes as well as unit and gruppe infos. I can scan images if needed…there are some good detail pics too. let me know I see what I can do. Mucker, theres an interesting He-111 camo mottle scheme if interested…still owe you the last book too…just that been swamped at work.
Well now I dont know which to start first the 217 or the 177…as my mentor Charlie Brown would say…"Good Greif"
I believe you have to save the picture to your computer and then host it on a sit eof your choosing (I use the free service at www.photobucket.com). From there, you upload the IMG link of the picture to your profile. I believe there is a thread for hosting pictures on one of the general forums.
carsanab:
Congratulations on your new addition! Cigars for everyone![party]
I’m glad you went out and got it…should we extend the build deadline? I’d be interested to see the camo scheme you mentioned. Right now I plan to go OOB for decals, but I’m sure that can be changed.
Send me a pic of the contents in the 177 box! THat has to be a HUGE box, and a heavy one, too. Did you get the PE and other goodies? 22 pages of instructions! Holy Messerschmitt!
And make sure you post photos of the He-111 you build a few years back.
As requested by our fearless leader here’s a pic of an HE-111 I built couple of years ago. For all those building the Monogram kit…this is it…except I added PE cockpit, it makes a big difference behind that big greenhouse…you see everything. The kit was good…little bit of seam filling but hey its Monogram. In the end its a very large and nice looking build…the little fellow next to it is one of my favorite builds…fun camo scheme i struggled with, right Mucker…
It definately looks challenging, but should turn out great. Do you have any other 1/72 scale planes built? When you’re done with the Condor, the smaller planes in the same scael will show how massive the Fw200 is.
Carlos:
You fearless leader took cover under his desk when he saw the 109 and 111. I remember both of those builds. Did you have any engine-to-wing fit issues with the 111? I may try to tackle the lanidng gear and engines this weekend. I’ve got the wings glued together and the fuselage halves glue together. The desert scheme in one of your e-mails looks pretty interesting. I’m trying to decide which camo to go with still.
That Greif kit is amazing! It probalby makes the 111 look small. You’ll have to take a widescreen picture of both together when you’re done.
Now that we’ve hot a Fw200 and a He177 in the group, anyone out there have the Gigant? Too bad there’s not a 1/48 scale kit of it…
A little secret: THe Monogream 1/48 He111 can be found for $10 at www.everstoystore.com. It’s the cheapest you’ll find this excellent kit. Each time I want to put Revell/Monogram in the “low grade” category, I stumble across an excellent kit from them, like the He-111 and the Bf110.
It just goes to show that each manufacturer has their aces and their dogs.
