BomberGruppe GB - 2007 (Luftwaffe Bombers)

Jason and CS, those are some awesome looking builds you have planned. [tup] I look forward to seeing them built.

Invertman, the Revell 1/72 scale kit is a great kit too, a new tooling, and it won’t take up your entire display space either. They are supposed to be releasing the He 177 A-6 soon with Hs 293 guided bombs instead of the fritz that are on the A-5 version.

Sorry about that…I must have bought them out[:-^]. I picked up a few last time. THey were $10 plus shipping. I couldn;t believe my eyes.

In 1/72 scale, I hear the Hasegawa version is top notch. Dragonfly put one on this site a few months back. He did a killer job with it, too.

I got a couple of refernce books here and they have some info on the FW 200…like what do you need??? I can scan and email them to you…

Carlos

hey carlos,

info on this plane is limited.

i surfed the web for about 2 hrs.

i would like to find some good photos of it.

thanks.

jason

Invertman: I’ll see what I have in the way of reference material, as well and try to send scans tomorrow.

Here is a progress update:

Main sub-assemblies are going together. Here’s the fuselage:

and the nice True Details resin wheels. I guess this makes the build non-OOB.

…and finally the engines. This was the worst issue so far. There are major gaps between the engines and wings. The old “Squadron putty thinned with acetone and applied with a Q-tip” trick seems to have worked, but I’ll find out once I start painting.

If anyone of you out there have built this before, some pointers would be appreciated.

Mucker, nice job so far on that Heinkel. Not to be outdone, here are progress pictures of my Ju88.

I used Tenax to join the fuselage pieces. There were ugly seams visible after some sanding, so I laid down some Squadron white putty and that seems to have dealt with those seams.

I’ve also put together the landing gear. They are not complete as yet - I have more painting and a wash to finish, but here they are with added brake lines.

This weekend is my daughter’s first birthday, so it is unlikely that I will make much more progress between now and then, let alone beginning the Do 217 …

Looking good so far guys…

Tonight Im starting my 177…wish me luck!

Mucker…those engines bring back memories of my 111, they were a pain and i filled and sanded quite a bit…some strategically placed oil/smoke stains covered some flaws in mine.

whats that radioactive blue stuff you are drinking???

cs

ok,

the benches are clean.

been making a plan of attack for 2 days on this bird.

starting the fw200 tonight.

this is going to be a challanging build for me.

does anybody know if there are any cross ref. charts that go from the revell paints

to model master enamels?

Invertman:

I have a great paint reference that includes Revell #'s. Give me the RLM #'s you are after and I’ll see what the book says.

Carsanab:

That’s good old fashioned air-brush cleaner, uh, I mean windex. I buy the gallon size refils at Target on sale for $2 and they last me up to 6 months.

I like the tip about the exhaust stains. I have a suspicion I will need to use that trick of yours. It’s not a fall-together kit, but so far it’s been pretty straight forward. The Wing-to-Fuselage looks like it will need some sanding and dry-fit.

Post some pics of the 177 as you go.

Aggieman:

Looking good so far on the Ju88. The tail wings look like they fit nicely and the fuselage seam doesn’t look to be too much of an issue. Have you decided on a camo scheme? German camo was akways neat, but hard to airbrush!

Oh, and [bday] to your daughter. [party] Congrats! They grow up so quickly…

ok…all done!lol.

just kidding.

testing fit of major parts.

now to the sink for a bath.

looking good on the builds guys.

mucker:

i have the rlm #s on the camo, but they dont give any numbers on the rest of the

paints they just call them out by name.

they just call out the letters then give you a decription of the color.

i think i will just go to the hs. with the instructions and match up the colors

i need if i can.

i just thought that i could get the revell number then cross it to model master

This link MAY help:

http://www.hobbyguys.net/Hunbrol.htm

It lists many brands, including MM and Revell.

Hopefully it helps.

Mucker,

I will likely be doing the standard splinter scheme for the 88. I don’t have a specific aircraft that I’m modeling so I’ll probably just do whatever looks good, perhaps yellow wingtips on the underside, perhaps colored spinners. Not really sure yet.

Thanks for your kind words regarding my daughter. I’m hoping to get her interested in modeling to some degree once she gets old enough - I’m actually picturing (and shuddering at the thought of) a pink warbird.[:-^]

thanks mucker.

thats just what i was looking for.

jason.

Looking good so far guys! I’ll be getting a late start on my Ju-88, but your progress is making me want to get started. I’m stuck in Arkansas for the next couple of weeks, so I’ll have to try and get moving on the 88 when I get back.

Hey Aggie & Tying to…

I got some great pics of 88’s in these books i just got…some interesting camo schemes let me scan and post them.

Invertmann I got a couple of FW pics too…

Carlos

Pink, Purple…whatever gets them into modelling is just fine. My oldest prefers “fast” planes to my old WWII birds, and like sci-fi and dinosaurs even more. Actually he (WE) are building a 1/72 Mig-23S painted in NMF underside, tan and olive camo topside, and an old set of Zero decals. an unlikely combo, but it floats his boat. We’ve gone to the local IMPS show two years in a row now and it is becoming kind of a tradition. We buy a kit of his liking each time and work on it throughout the year.

My 2 year old son likes any airplane that is red, regardless of what it is.

As for the Pink warbird, I predict she’ll like British desert schemes…

OK, so it’s [#offtopic], but kids are the future of our hobby.

Aggieman…Tryingto…take a look at these cool schemes…personally I like the whitewash…

Pics courtesy of KAMPFFLIEGER VOL2…

enjoy.

carlos

I’ve always liked that “winter whitewash” look on the Ju-88! [8D]

INvertman, PM me you r e-mail address…I scanned some color FW200 pages from the books “Warplanes of the Luftwaffe”. THere is some good information here.
