My eyes are getting old. I’m building more larger scale stuff now-a-days.
A 1/32 He-111? That must be HUGE! I know my 1/48 scale one is big. I’m impressed!
Gary
Like most of you, I have a project to finish up.
But until then, here’s the Do-17Z fresh from it’s bath in the kitchen sink. I don’t know that it’s necessary, but it can’t hurt.
Gary
I don’t have room for my 1/48 one unless I hang it up.
Regarding the 1/32 He111, I built that one about a decade ago. After my mother passed, I inherited some stuff from her, including a bunch of wall decorations that she had picked up while in France (prints of the Eiffel Tower, the Arch, the Louvre, etc) and always displayed in one of the bathrooms. In her honor, my wife and I opted to continue that bathroom display in our home.
Then when I was finishing up this huge build, my wife suggested adding it to the French bathroom. I honestly don’t know if 111s were used in the Battle of France in early 1940, never recall reading that they were, but my wife’s sense of humor here won me over. So I added the completed Heinkel to the French bathroom.
That He-111 looks great and you have a very understanding wife.
I think the French would say: “Gauche!”

I remembered last night that I had this in the stash:
I bought it when the kit was relatively new, so the moldings are nice with little to no flash. I think I acquired it when Kaybee Toys were going out of business, and they were selling these kits for $10.
Back in my optimistic youth, I bought TRHEE of these kits (hey only $10 each!) with the intent of doing a He-1111Z. It didn’t pan out, so I sold off one kit but kept two “just in case”. But now there is an injected He-111Z in 1/48! What an amazing time to be a modeler.
Anyway, I have a book that had an alleged BoB He-111 with some large white ID bars painted on one wing that wanted to do.
While I cannot commit to building this kit for the GB, if I can get the Spitfire done, this will follow.
I remember going to Kaybee when I was five I think? Can’t believe thats almost been forty years ago.
Taking a break from the new kitchen floor project. Figured I would glue a few pieces together. Then did something I haven’t done in ages….
I fingerprinted the bottom of the wing!!!
Only about 100 raised rivets in the area. Go figure.
That photo hurts to look at.
Nooooooooooo!
If that were me, and the kit wasn’t some ultra-rare subject or boxing, I’d probably order a duplicate for spare parts rather than try to fix that.
Well… I know where you can get a spare.
Gary
Thanks @GAF
I think I’m going to work with what I have. I’m an armour guy usually - I can just cover it with mud right?
Anyway, got further into the kit, missing pilot seat and a few other small parts.
So out came the evergreen and this is what I ended up with. Bear in mind, the canopy will be closed and is kind of thick.
I think I’m going to have to start taking pictures from farther away. I see too many issues when zoomed in. Looks a lot cleaner in person using 50+ year old eyes.
I did the same thing in the mid 90’s. I bought the Zwilling conversion. Built the Z. Then one of my cats knocked it off the shelf. I still have the center wing.
That’s some pretty impressive 1/72 scratch building there @Frozin.
Great scratch building, Frozin! I was missing a couple of seats in the Dornier, so I had to scratch them up, but it was nothing comparatively.
Gary
@Frozin That is very good scratch building in that Stuka cockpit. I did something similar with an old Monogram Bf110 I did a few years ago, but I’d just say it was passable with no detail. Just a couple of square-looking seats and a rod to serve as a control column.
As for your glue finger print, yes, you can probably get away with mudding the Stuka’s underside. They typically operated off of grass fields, but I doubt they ever got as muddy as armor can get.
An alternative would be to sand it down, even to the point of losing all that rivet detail. Then use a rivet tool to replace the rivets. I just acquired this tool and have used it on my current Hellcat build. https://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Tools/rivet-maker-tool/TRP00009910/product.php?kw=rivet,maker
@Frozin Thats some very impressive scratch work.
Thanks all. Most likely overkill for the kit and possibly a bit big for the scale, but it was an enjoyable evening spent. Got it base coated this morning. After a wash and maybe some dry brush detailing I’ll close her up. Honestly this GB is giving me some incentive to actually finish a kit in a reasonable amount of time.
