O I love the tri-motor! The only one I’ve seen was in the San Diego Aerospace museum.
Yeah, it’s a beautiful plane to see flying over. I guess one year Harrison Ford took some Young Eagles up in it for a flight.
Looks like a KLM 747-400 with the markings removed. Didn’t KLM stop flying passenger 747s?
Must be an old pic flight aware says:
Last flight took off from ORD
Monday 05-Oct-2020
12:46PM CDT
And landed at Mojave Air & Space Port, presumably still sitting there baking in the desert sun.
@stikpusher your first pic looks like a C-130. After I graduated high school, my dad went back to being a farmer, something he loved doing but didn’t feel was stable enough for raising a family. The farm he bought sat on top of a big hill in western NY an hour east of Buffalo and had a huge red barn that was easy to spot from the air. There is an air national guard base in Niagara Falls with a flight of C-130s. They would frequently overfly that barn while practicing terrain recognition tactics. It was fun to watch them.
I am a plane spotter, I suppose, though I never thought of it that way. I’m also a birder, so I guess I consider myself a plane-er…?
I have an SD card full of photos from Airventure 2024 that I have yet to process. This thread is a good reminder.
I did have this neato old bird fly over while I was walking the dog this morning:
They give rides in that one at the airshow, but you have to sign up early. I missed it by about a half hour last year!
@NWAN322 those are some killer photos! If you haven’t, you gotta make the trip for the Oshkosh show one of these years. Bring some extra SD cards.
Oh that’s awesome! Are they still active? This is actually super funny, but I’m also going to the Niagara Area on the same trip when I visit the USAF Museum haha funny coincidence!
It’s definitely on the bucket list! Except I don’t think my mom would feel justified buying tickets to fly cross country to see planes She wasn’t the most pleased to find out that I went to Miramar with my friends for a one day trip from LA to go to their airshow last September the weekend before my big exam!
Anyways, hopefully I’ll get to do it one day!
I’m not sure. My dad retired and sold the farm about 15 years ago and I have been away from NY for at least 25 years. Since you’re headed from here to there, I might recommend you stop in Cleveland to see the USS Cod museum. It’s right down the street from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Oh nice! I’ll have to check it out! Thanks
Yes, that is a C-130. Saw it awhile back doing touch and goes on some desert airstrip outside of Blythe CA. C-130s and me go waaaaayyyy back…
C-130J?
C-17
DC-3
B-24
B-17
Beechcraft bird?
I spent years camping up on the Kern River and we saw so many birds flying the canyon. Nothing more fun than standing in the river trout fishing and one of the these air force birds zooms by at a couple hundred feet. Actually saw a C-17 doing a crazy fly by
Wow! I saw a C-17 parked outside of a Lockheed martin and that thing was huge
I had a friend that was a supervisor for Aircraft Maintenance at UPS Worldport. I needed some help building my UPS 747-8F. He sends me a text saying “ you’ll never believe what’s parked in our hanger for the next few days”. He took me on a tour.
During my chem test yesterday, a VERY LOUD group of fighter jets flew over. Love it when they train, it also gave me an excuse to take a tiny break to look out the window..
What a beautiful bird. You sir are lucky. Love the -8Fs. I’m headed to Louisville pretty soon, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch some MD-11Fs before they’re retired and some -8Fs!
