The Golden Mean, the ideal for us all!! [:D[
I’d like to add twist to this by asking if any of you guys have multiples of the same kit or multiples kits of a certain model aircraft.
I’ll admit to being of the “Top Gun” generation (teenager when the movie came out), so I have 39 F-14 kits in the stash. I’ve always been a Phantom Phanatic, so, until recently, those were in second place. That was until Tamiya came out with its beautiful F-16 kits, which has edged out the F-4s by 1 single kit (26 to 25).
Of the 305 kits in the stash, only 15 are single examples. Most of those are either the bigger or smaller WW2 prop kits (PBY, B-17, Storch, AT-6), some I bought because they were pretty cheap (think Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon), or just that expensive (Anigrand 72nd C-5, almost $400).
To paraphrase the Marauders, “Whats in your stash?”
I always had kind of a narrow focus, but having spent so much time in South West Asia in the last 3 years, I’ve developed a “build what I see” mentality, so I’ve added a bunch of kits to the stash
Yes!
6 P-47s
4 Spits
4 Mustangs
2 B-25s
I have about 50 styrene kits about 1/4 in different stages of construction and about 30+ resin figures (1/8 - 1/3 scale)
As to the last question about repeats I have 4 of the same sailing ship 3 I picked up for $4 a piece.and 2 of the same figure (1/5 nekkid girls).
I do have a theme going of Creature form the Black Lagoon figures at 7, 2 Aurora’s, 2 vinyl and 3 resin.
All other models range from aircraft, ships &subs, Sci Fi and Anime. a few armor, couple cars.
3 109’s (and there will be MANY more), 2 SBD’s, 2 Spits, 2 Ju 87’s
BTW, you guys who have 100’s of kits, make sure you have an itemized listing and a photograph or two for insurance purposes. In fact, run it by your agent to make sure they’re covered under your HO/Renters policy.
Since I do a variety of subjects,
Multiples of same kit: two 1/35 Tamiya M113; three Italeri 1/72 F-5; two Minicraft/Hasegawa 1/72 A-10; two Heller 1/72 EC-121 Warning Star; two AMT 1/25 tanker trailer (original release); two Revellogram 1/25 Eddie Hill Pennzoil dragster.
Multiples of subject: four SR-71 (1/72); doubles and triples of many subjects, Fokker Dr.1 to F-4.
I believe what you are referring to is the “Hobbies for Heroes” program through the IPMS (International Plastic Model Society. You can find more info here http://www.ipmsusa.org/STT/stt_chapters.html BTW I think it is a great idea as well.

I’ve got serious multiple issues, all 1/48th:
6 B-1 bombers
10 S-3 Vikings
15 A-4s Almost all earmarked for USN/USMC Adversary schemes
25 F-5E/F Again, for all those different Adversary/Aggressor schemes
20 A-6/EA-6B Remember when these kits were so hard to find? When they were re-issued, I stockpiled. Pretty much an even split between the 2 & 4 seaters.
12 F-8 Crusaders, another of my favorite aircraft & model. Built my first one back in the 80s.
20 F-15s. Got to do the 911 WTC Scramblers from Mass ANG. Always heard how good the Revell E kit is.
14 F-18s combined Legacy & Supers. Lots of great decal sheets for this model.
6 B-58 Hustlers Another formerly hard to get kit that I stockpiled when reissued a few years back.
Already mentioned the F-4s, F-14s, & F-16. All the rest consist of 2-5 kits, too numerous to list
I like planning for “Heratige Builds”, especially for USN fighter squadrons, since the markings can be similar from one aircraft to the next, like the sunburst on VF-111s aircraft, or Felix running with his lit bomb on VF-31s birds, and the instantly recognizable Jolly Rogers skull & crossbones, you get the idea.
I really need to sit down with the storage boxes & do a proper inventory. After stumbling across some deals on a bunch of old second-hand kits I’m guessing I’m in the 50-60 range. A slight majority are 1/72 aircraft, 1/48 aircraft are close behind. Two 1/72 helis and a lonely Jagdpanther fill out the roster.
