Like many I’ve just gotten back into the hobby after a long, long hiatus. With credit card in hand I’ve bought loads of “must have” stuff. Now I’m not sure if I control my work bench or my work bench controls me. It’s like trying to build a model on a garbage scow.
I would be very interested in how you guys organize and store all your supplies and manage your work benches. Any special techniques or clever organizers would be great tips. Would especially appreciate any photos of work benches to get ideas on how to best organize.
Some good ideas there. I have to start thinking of building up, not out. Hoping to move soon to a new house with a dedicated hobby room to really get a custom work bench.
I have a built-in desk/bench, with a wrap around shelf up top, and a few small shelves in the corner and a paint rack for small Testors bottles. I have two small book shelves close by and a section of drawers from an old desk. I just added the larger paint rack on the wall.
I have also (just the other day) drilled holes down the sides of the paint rack to hold files on one side and my main brushes on the other.
Good to see I am not the only one using a folding table as my bench! I have upgraded and am now using two of them…one 6 feet the other 4 feet. I will post a picture. Also glad to see I am not the only one with a used tape ball on the front of the table.[:D]
Ha, I didn’t even notice him there, til I uploaded the pic. That dude is a little goofy! I think he’s left handed!!![proplr] He’s a good dog though.[A]
hey,., I’m left handed !! here’s my bench from a few years ago… since, then… I;ve added a bench on the left, and upgraded the TV to a 17" flat screen and dumped Dr Phil…[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]
p38jl: WOW!!! You were right… not neat. I myself have OCD issues pretty much because my wife does, and she would melt if i had this in my house lol. I do like the pics on the wall, are those model boxes cut up?
lol… this “mess” is in its own room, so when I shut the door… no one sees… basicly the room is my Sanctuary, and all my needed tools, etc are within an arms length… when I build, I tend to keep all the paint, parts, sprue etc ,right on the bench untill I’m done…
my “wallpaper” is box tops from kits I’ve built, they run from left to right in age( or time period)… the ones you can see are from my early to late teens, and they run to the right around the room… to the present…
Sanford and Son ??? I resemble that.[whstl]. !! Ethel !! its the big one !! I’m coming !
my paint rack you can see on the right, is a plastic tote box with adjustable container sizes in the box, i screwed it to the wall and some paint bottles, will stand inside it very well…
I am using an adjustable bamboo drawer divider that is for silverware as my wall mounted paint holder for the Vallejo paint. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond…with thier cupon I think it cost around $15 dollars or so. Works great. I will post pic’s…promise.
Here is my table. Got plenty of drawer space and have made dividers inside the drawers for different paint and have labelled them on the outside. This makes it wicked easy to find paint for a kit, a little pain when putting it all away but well worth it. I got my tape dispenser that i love, and hoping to add a paper towel dispenser just above it. Then a place for reference material and books up above.
I think now looking at pictures of my table its not very neat either lol. Im jelous that you have your own room. Some day i will, when we sell our condo and buy a real house, my plans are to finish the basement and move my shop down their.
i had a set back a month or so ago… all the kids, cept one had moved from the house and I was in the process of converting covertly my son’s room to a mancave annex… ( new gun cabinet is in ) ( stash overflow stored )… and then… the oldest moved back in…grrrrrr…[bnghead]
ps… dont make me post my mancave pic… lol…[whstl][::DD0]
