Just went throught the same thing!
I keep thinking that a large closet with a couple of bi-fold doors would generally take care of what I have on the go. Finish up for the night, shut off the light & close the closet doors - bam, instantly out of the way. My wife seems to have other ideas for the closet… [bnghead]
I think they allways seem to have other ideas or other plans then what you want to do. LOL I have a moto though
“Happy wife, Happy Life”
I seem to noitce that neither of you two fine gentlemen are sportting a certain award that denotes agreement with and acceptance of direction from ones spousal unit.
I missed that one on a technicality - I generally have 1/3 of the kitchen table covered with in-progress kits & supplies at any given time with the only catch being “cleaned up if company is coming over”.
Ok… I’ll llet you slide on that technicality.
Aside from the possibility of one of the kids mistaking a bottle of Tenax for apple juice or something, this is THE reason I set myself up in the garage. The one place in the house the wife could give a fig about, so long as they’re room for her to park and move random crap from the house to. For example, the ratty old chair that she’s been planning to restore one day for the last 6 years.
After trying to hijack Doogs’ thread about his workbench, I am posting my workbench on the correct thread. Sorry again, Doogs.
I just “upgraded” from a card table to a 6 foot folding table and am loving the extra space. I am also kond of a neat freak. I use a 3 drawer organizer for paints and smaller stuff and the file cabiet for large things and magazine. I put a box fan in the window to act as my paint booth.

The Garage??? In Texas??? Man I hope you have a good A/C in there. If not you are now offically “The Man” in my book.
When I hear “the garage”, my first thought is, “man, I hope you have a good heater in there!”

If you have small children, I suggest if you are looking at creating a new workbench you take a look at a computer cabinet armoire.

I had this old toolbox we used for mobility deployments. The doors supported the fold up desk and could be closed and LOCKED to keep my two very inquisitive boys away from things they shouldn’t have or I didn’t want them to have access to. For bulk storage you can always put stuff up high on a closet shelf.

I have…wait for it…a FAN!
But my modeling hours are usually about 10PM-1AM, so even in the dead of summer it’s usually cooled down to at least 95 by then…also have the wife park in the driveway if she’s out driving after dark. The absence of a burning hot engine block really cuts down on the heat.
Also picked up a bug zapper to deal with that bit of fun. Hoping to god it works…of course the second it arrives we get a cold snap and all the bugs go away…
Yea i just make sure i stick to my table and all is well!!! But on occaision like now i have a box of kits stacked up under her sewing machine!!!
goodness?? kits under the sewing machine ?? thats like flirting with death isnt it ??. lol
Doogs… bug zapper in the mancave?? dead flies add to the camo realism ??[whstl]
HAHA yea it is.
You just have to beat her to the punch! If she gives you any guff, just beat her!!![:P]
Don’t beat your wife… not nice. But do move into the closet before she does. I did that with the whole house! So what if I sleep on the couch, I like it there!
I have not been awarded such a prestigous award!!!
I’m collecting dead bugs for a planned Chernobyl dio…gluing those extra eyes onto the flies is tough work though!
But really…our garage is one of those fake three car garages that has one double-depth bay. By bench is back in that area, and the zapper will be hanging up near (probably off of) the garage door. So there should hopefully be plenty of separation. But god the bugs are annoying. Right now it’s crane flies bouncing off everything. In a few weeks it’ll be junebugs, then crickets, moths, cicadas…ugh.
The other night I had a bird get stuck in the garage. That was fun.
hahahaha… lolol…thats funny Doogs… the worst I get, is one of Manny’s agents will snoop behind the desk and fall asleep during Dr Phil ( not )… and I wont know he/she is there…
