Work bench ideas

A really stunning setup there, @RAF_Liberator — both pics. I love the integrated vent hood. Wish list item there.

And the display cabinets — would love to see more pics of them — maybe post them in the “how do you display your models” thread?

Thanks Tom, I’ve since extended the laser bed and put a pair of doors on that area to keep the smells out. I sealed them with rubber strip and you can hear the air being sucked out of the space.

Enquiring minds want to know….is that a humongous stash on the right, or some empty boxes from completed builds in there as well?
As a newbie modeler, I’m wondering what others do with their kit boxes once done. Seems a shame to trash them. But then, they do take up space. What to do!
I hope this comes across as a legit question. I’m seriously curious what others do with the boxes.
Personally, I’m inclined to keep them. Somehow, someway.

BTW, sweet set up.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark, nowadays I just recycle them. But when I was a kid I’d cut out the box cover and poster my walls in my room

Cool idea.

My workspace bench is a “kitbash” of old desks. Nowhere near as elaborate as some but it works. The spraybooth is homemade and vents out the basement window through a series of filters.

It was -30 yesterday, how do you keep your liquids from freezing? I know a 50 or a Brador will keep you warm….

Inquirering minds are curious…. Lol

I have a third bay in my garage that has no garage door, so it is my work area. I built a custom workbench in an L shape along one huge corner. I augmented it with a Craftsman tool box which I built into one end of the bench. This is where I store all of my paints and other modeling supplies.

I will be selling my house when I retire (probably 10 years out). I’m going to miss this space badly. But, I’ve already told my better half that this kind of space is a requirement for our next home.

That’s a great workspace you have there. I have a similar power strip but it’s located at the back of my workbench. After seeing your setup I may have to move mine. The cords running back to it always tangle things up.

I noticed your monitor is playing “The Fog” do you watch that when working on canopies and clear pieces?

@PhoenixG Ha, but nice catch on the movie. No idea why I was watching it at that time of the year, The Fog is usually one I watch around Halloween time. But truth be told, I once did actually fog some clear parts on a Japanese Nell I built by spraying a flat clear coat AFTER I’d removed the clear part masks.

Newbie question……is that a thing then? …….clear coats fog clear parts?

Thanks,
Mark

Depends upon the type of clear you hit them with.

When you spray them with a flat clear, it can definitely fog them.

Gloss clears aren’t an issue. I regularly dip canopies and lenses in gloss clear (Future specifically) to give them a nice sheen.
