There’s a whole bunch of stuff from games I’d love to see kits of. I think my top 3 would be the Stinger Mantis from Jedi Fallen Order:
The Unreliable from The Outer Worlds:
The vertibird from Fallout:
This would be my top pick as well. I have the 1/35 APC and 1/72 Dropship from Halcyon, but they both leave a lot to be desired. Now that I have a 3D printer, I’m hunting for either new models or at the very least some good improvements that I can make myself.
ooh boy. Only one ? That’s tough ![]()
From the top of my head :
Now, I know most of them exist already as models to build, but they often seem to call for a good amount of customisation to look good imho. Often they look a bit dull, lacking in details, flat… I dunno. It’s up to the modeler to improve on them.
I totally agree, I was surprised to see the detail in @Karl187’s tank builds from the Command and Conquer series. It sounds really dumb to me now, but it hadn’t occurred to me that I could add details to cool looking but simplistic game assets while recreating them in Blender. I’ve always tried to make them as true to the source as possible, but when the models are low res that leaves them lacking. Now the trick will be keeping any additions subtle and acceptable to the majority of viewers. Guessing I’ll find there’s a fine line between embellishing and ruining the original aesthetic.
Great list by the way - getting a bunch of new ideas from everyone.
Holy cow that is an awesome collection! You’re led lit fleet of sci-fi craft has me drooling. Thanks for posting all of them. I’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite but the Star Wars Republic Star Destroyer is a standout for sure.
I loved the movie but couldn’t for the life of me remember the drop ship, had to google it. Yup it’s pretty awesome.
The Unreliable from The Outer Worlds:
That would be a cool looking model, reminds me of Mando’s ship.
Definitely Predators, Aliens, but other movie characters.
Hats of to you character painters, I can’t even get the little dudes that come with my armor to look reasonably life like. I tend to do them last if at all.
A-7E VA-86 sidewinders from The Final Countdown. PS, I would love to know the story behind that barricade scene. You can’t tell me that they purposely barricaded an aircraft adjust for the movie…
Also, I would love to do a diorama of the belly landed P 47 from the opening scene in Fighter Squadron. Notify the taxpayers to get me another one!
LASTLY, A DIORAMA OF THE B-29 THEY CONVERTED INTO A BOAT IN THE LAST FLIGHT OF NOAH’S ARK. Sorry about the caps, but I’m not retyping it – ha ha
I guess I accidentally became a Tom Cruise super fan when I got back into the hobby last year. My 4th/5th models built were a 1/72 test build (I’m planning a 1/48 this year) of the famous “Because I was inverted “ scene. Then I followed it up with a vintage kit from Days of Thunder. I may have to do another DoT car because this build was done with Krylon rattle cans, and now I airbrush, so I should be able to get a slightly better result if I start over.
I focus on military machines mostly, but have been considering doing the Smoky and the Bandit vehicles (1st movie). Snowman’s rig, the Trans Am, The wrecked police car. I’m also interested in building TOS Star Trek ships. I’ve got a lot of projects ahead of these though, and with my current situation it will be awhile before I get going on any of these.
I’m sure you’d get that big goofy grin on Mr Cruise’s face if he saw your post. I’ve been a fan (again) of his since Live Die and Repeat. Actually, a diorama of him and Ms Blunt in their battle harnesses squared off against an Alpha might just be a figure based project I could get into.
That would be a great build from an incredible movie.
Sample list of things I’d love to build from movies, tv shows, and games:
Shuttlecraft from the original Battlestar Galactica series.
The emergency evacuation ships at the end of the disaster movie 2012.
AIRWOLF helicopter.
Blue Thunder police helicopter.
A Doctor Who DALEK.
The Russian MiG that Clint Eastwood steals in the movie Firefox.
Almost any HALO vehicle or spaceship.
Gunstar from The Last Starfighter movie.
Just about any Valkyrie fighter or Destroid mech from the Macross/Robotech animes.
The agriculture/forestry spaceship from the old movie Silent Running.
Aircraft carrier and Hammerhead fighter from the Space: Above & Beyond tv series.
Landram tracked vehicle from the original Battlestar Galactica series.
USS Cygnus from The Black Hole.
Akira, Steamrunner, Norway, and Sabre class starships from STAR TREK: First Contact movie.
Ahsoka’s Jedi shuttlecraft from the Ahsoka tv series.
X, Y, A, and B-wing starfighters from STAR WARS.
Original TRON light cycle or tank.
X-Men jet. The one that looks like a modified SR-71 Blackbird.
Any fighter jet from the Japanese anime “Yukikaze”.
Haven’t done much TV/Movie inspired stuff, but there are these two
Hessler’s Tiger from BoB
And from Fury
Akira, Steamrunner, Norway, and Sabre class starships from STAR TREK: First Contact movie.
All my life (OK since I was 5) I’ve considered myself a huge Trek geek, but I haven’t a clue as to what any of those ships look like. So thanks a bunch WhatIfRebel, now I need to go watch First Contact again!
Black Hole’s USS Cygnus would be crazy fun to do up with LED lighting like @Aggieman’s
Republic Star Destroyer. So many excellent Idea’s so little time.
I was scrolling up from the bottom when this pic first came into view. my mind went straight to Fury - Excellent job.
