What part of model building do you like the least?

What part of building a model do you dislike the most? For me it is adding the final parts, (ie landing gear, gear doors, antennas, small parts) after the model is painted, decaled and basicely completed. I don’t mind the sanding, painting, preping or other parts of assembly.

[:)]For me, it’s the transparent parts. Mainly aircraft canopies[banghead][censored] They drive me mad! I never can get them right first time[:o)]
The other bit that drives me crazy is attaching those tiny little fiddly parts, you know the ones-they go “ping!” and fly across the room as soon as you touch them[:(!][V][:(!][V]! If it’s ever happened to you, you’ll know what I mean![:D][:D]

I hate the cleanup. Cleaning the parts, moldlines, stuff like that. I also hate cleaning up my desk! It gets so cluttered so fast. I need a model maid. [}:)][:D]

I hate the final details. I have several models that are sooooo close to being completed. When I sit down to put on the antennas, pitot tubes, or whatever, my attention begins to drift away to the box on my table containing the new P-47 or Enzo Ferrari that just arrived. Then I think that maybe I can just take a peek and see what the instructions look like, glance at the decals, and see what paint I need to buy. Before I know it, I’m gluing, filling, and sanding the new model and the old one is pushed to the back of the table.

I don’t usually build for contests, and once a model is finished it is not nearly as interesting to me as it was when all the possibilities and challenges lay ahead. Potentiality is more exciting than actuality. Honestly, I don’t look at my built models that often. My trouble is that I jump the gun on the next model when I am only 96% done with the old one.

Does anyone suffer from this quirk?

For me, it’s the filling and sanding, especially when you think you’ve got everything nice and smooth, then you put on the primer, and lo and behold, there’s a nice little seam or hole that the primer reveals! Then you have to apply more putty, wait for it to dry, sand, re-primer it, wait for THAT to dry and it’s STILL not smooth so you have to go through the whole rigamorale (spelling?) AGAIN![banghead] I did see an interesting tip in the December issue about using a damp Q-tip to more quickly reveal flaws in your filling job without having to apply primer and wait for it to dry. I’m definitely going to try that![:)]

i,m the same as you chemman, that final 4% seems to take as long as the other 96%…and i too start tinkering with other kits before finishing what im building

For me, it getting the nose weight right in aircraft models.

Its so easy to go under or over on the weight and need to rectify it later.

A close second is decals that represent stenciling on an aircraft, I always try to model an aircraft that didn’t have a whole lot of stenciling in life so I don’t have to stick so many tiny decals on my models.

Sanding and filling drive me CRAZY!!! [soapbox][banghead][banghead][banghead][censored][censored][censored]
I had much rather build, paint, decal, detail, etc than sand another kit! But I keep doing it anyway [sigh][sigh][sigh][^]

Decaling. I have more trouble with decals than anything else. It probabily because of my XXXL hands. And also accounts for my affity for ships and Sci-Fi.

For me its decaling - I have to get in the mood - sometimes I will have 1/2 dozen models ready to decal - won’t do any thing with them - then one evening will feel like putting some decals on and do all at one sitting - but for some reason really have to be in a mood to do it.

I would say Decaling and Sanding/filling!

Filling and sanding putty!

I hate it, even if it’s a small section [xx(]

Filling and sanding for me to. Still can’t get a seam to dissapear all together.

Detail painting. I’ll take the building, sanding, puttying, and gluing any day.

Robert, maybe we can come to some sort of arrangement! I’ll do the stuff you hate, you do the stuff I hate, and maybe we’ll get a few more built that way!!

Cooperation … I like it Ed !!!

Cleaning the airbrush [:(!]

I’d also have to say the filling and sanding, but running right behind it would be painting canopy frames.

I’m with Jim Barton, everything has been prepared and on goes the first coat of primer and damm another small blemish appears. The thing that really annoys me though is having to strip down and repaint because of some stuff up

It’s sanding and filling for me because you have to do it over and over until you get it right and it mess up the work area. Also, the dust makes me itchy.
