What Did You do on Your Work Bench Today

I worked on finishing the running rigging on my Revell 1/225 H.M.S. Victory. Pushing to get this completed for my models club’s next meeting next week.

Next up today is the Tamiya 1/35 JSU-152. Been on the shelf for little over a year. Lost interest in it when I messed up the tracks but I’ll just use the other kit included tracks minus the sag.

The JSU-152 is very Soviet looking.

I got a full day in the workshop. Started on a 1/700 USS Texas and got the main mast sheets and lifts about done on my Thermopylae restoration.

Your Thermopylae restoration is moving along and looking great. I can’t wait to see it finished.

I don’t have photos, but last night a put the first coat of primer on my Tamiya VW Bug build. I did some body work and I added the primer to see where I might need to do some touch up work. I think I am all good and ready for the final primer coat, and paint.

Then I also finished up the seats and door panels on the 1971 Nissan Skyline sedan from Aoshima. On this kit I have the chassis done, and the body is painted. Now the interior is nearly done as well. I’m getting close.

This is the first time I have ever worked on two kits at the same time. I’m not sure I like doing it that way, BUT it does keep me busier. I can do something on one kit, then switch over to the other kit.

Example. I applied some paint on some of the Bug engine parts. Then I worked on the Skyline interior. While the Skyline interior work was curing, I switched back to some work on the Bug.

I’m finishing up Revell’s 1/225 HMS Victory tonight by gluing the gun port hatches on and then it’s on to finishing the base.

Photo of the work area. Off to the right is my spray booth. Table is 6’ x 4’, so lots of room for the ship and the items I am currently using without having to hunt for them. White shelves hold the necessary tools, while the red toolbox holds all the rest of the tools. Lathe is essential for ship building.

No. I’m not jealous of your workspace…

The work on top of the workbench looks great too…

Don’t be too jealous - I am in the mechanical room of the basement with the furnace and hot water heater as my room mates. Through judicious packing and organizing, I also have two 4’ x 2’ x 7’ shelving units filled with my stash and magazines & books. When I retire and move (someday) I want my own room in a normal part of the house.
Beats the garage (which is currently only 28 degrees here in Chicago).

I just wanted to glue something together, so I pulled out Takom’s Vk 168.01(P).

This was a precursor to the Maus super heavy tank that Germany built during WW II. I guess Hitler kept asking for bigger guns and thicker armor, so the VK168 was never built.

But this tank had an unusual feature - twin treads, which is what made me press the “buy this” button. The kit tracks are belt type, molded in that suspicious flexible material that may or may not react to paints, and may or may not disintegrate over time. So I sprung for two packs of Friul Elephant tracks. They are heading this way and should be here by the end of the week. I hope they fit!

I find the “octopus” camouflage on the box art to be attractive, so I’ll most likely paint the model thusly. Before I do the Google Dive, can anyone share some information regarding the application and use of this peculiar camo pattern? sharing is caring!

The other kit also has two pairs of track, but front-to-back, not side-by-side.

This one has been languishing in the box while I work up the enthusiasm to assemble four sets of indy link tracks for this guy.

I spent my modeling time today sanding all the putty that I used on my Lindberg shrimp boat.

Absolutely nothing.

I have to do some air brushing on the current model, but my garage is a mess. It’s the never ending storage of what my wife buys and I have to put away and can never keep up.

I airbrushed all of the base coats onto Lindberg’s shrimp boat. Hopefully tonight I’ll be able to touch up all of the areas where the masking leaked.
