Thanks Tony (@Tojo72) and Scott (@Samphoto)! It’s 1/35. My figure painting skills aren’t great, but they’re good enough for me. Somehow I never got in the habit of apply highlights and shadows. My excuse is that while most modelers make highlights and shadows on figures, they never do shadows FROM the figures, or the tanks.
Great work with the tank mate, and I’ll bet those figures look perfectly fine to the Mk.I Eyeball ![]()
I worked on my 1/48 Hasegawa SBD-3 yesterday and will get in an hour or two this evening.
Wow! Sundays are slow on FSM forums.
I’ve got that one in the stash and have built it once before - long time ago. I’ve been considering starting it as I only have my 1/144 KC-135R on the bench waiting on decals. I’ve got a few kits I’m considering - all 1/48: Tamiya P-51B with Berlin Express decals, Tamiya F4U-1A Corsair and the old Monogram Texan done up as an T-6G trainer. Also the thought of the Tamiya Mosquito crossed my mind. Hmmm ![]()
Good point. Must be always cloudy in Diorama World. ![]()
Cheers,

Got the interior done on the 62 Pontiac Catalina 421 SD. I put seat belts only in front as an aftermarket add on for drag racing in this one. Also chose black mats instead of carpet (which would have been red in this case) since they were going light weight on this factory dragger that was later refurbished. Took a minute to tape off the seats and get the colors down.
Dug out the Italeri 1/350 scale Ticonderoga cruiser I had started before, but never finished. Think I’ll get back to work on it again as I want to finish it for the Mad City and Manitowoc contests next year.
Also decided to see if I could salvage my friend’s 1/350 scale Spruance class destroyer. It’s a motorised version from Mini Hobby according to Scalemates. Unfortuneately, the kit is missing parts. How much, I don’t know. I’ve always been good at creativity and imagination when building what if type models. So I’m going to use this as a challenge to see what I can come up with.
One major thing I noticed last night is that my friend went and cut the long main deck into multiple pieces as indicated by the red circles. Why he did that is unknown. But I suspect it may have had something to do with the interior motor and if he needed to get inside to make repairs or change the batteries.
P.S. - One thing I’d like to do for the Spruance model is add an 8"/55 cal. Mk.71 gun (Pic below) at the front to replace the smaller 5" gun. There actually were proposals to add this gun to Spruance class ships, but the Navy ultimately abandoned this idea.
I’m enjoying this kit (AMT/Ertl 62 Catalina 421 SD) so far. Comes with fuel lines for the dual carbs. Well detailed engine out of the box. Added spark plug wires today. Happy with it.
It’s looking good, Peter!
Thanks Solomon, much appreciated.
Motor looks good Peter! Zoom Zoom
Thanks Keavdog. So far so good!
That’s Terrific!! Well done
That engine looks remarkably realistic. I know very little about modeling engines, but I do know my way around actual engines, and your color choices and detail work really sell it.
Very nicely done!
So I haven’t been on much lately due to organising a new house build , but I finally got to finish the F111c and to my disappointment it doesn’t fit in my display cabinet
Great looking build! I’ve yet to do an F-111 but have been considering ![]()
That F-111 looks spectacular! It’s a good thing you’re building a bigger house. Now you just need a bigger display cabinet! Or maybe give it a place of honor on the dining room table. It’s certainly worthy of it! ![]()
