These are the first two model kits I did on my own, and my best so far. I built the Sherman a couple years ago, and then I picked up the Tiger II. It was unbuilt until last summer or the year before, and I spent a couple months on and off building it.
I took inspiration for the camoflage from this Tiger II in a French museum
Other than that I just painted and added the decals as instructed. These models were to learn on, I practiced airspraying on the Tiger II with strips of tape to get the pattern right. I like how they turned out, so they sit on display on my desk.
Not bad at all for your first solo flights Cheaper 1:72 scale kits are a great place to build confidence and skills, without becoming prisoners to excessive details or the threat of ruining an expensive kit.
Love that foliage on Tiger II - Just the right amount and a perfect application for this scale - How did you achieve this effect?
Thanks!
For the foliage, I had some “bushes” or whatever from a diorama kit, I just painted the larger strings brown and glued them on as I thought looked good. I’ll see if I can find a picture tomorrow, along with some better pics of the Tiger
Fine job indeed Beachgrass. I see that you have visited the Saumur Tank Museum as well. Personally, I did visit it quite a few times and every time I discovered a new arrangement of the real monsters, as well as even new additions, such as the completely reconstructed Panther Ausf. G. Every visit was like being in a huge toy store for me and the advantage of it all is that you could see them working and gather all the detail you may have missed in just a simple picture. Saumur is a great inspiration for any serious modeler, not just regarding World War II, but also about tanks and vehicles from the Korean, Vietnam and more recent wars.
