"The Fuhrer and Junger" & "Eastern Front, Winter 1941"

Not pleased with the kit’s supplied base, he built a new one.

Have fun!

I’ve occasionally wondered if any of those persons included in Hitler’s final photo-event survived the end of the war.

I’ve wondered the same thing Tom…

Very nice work MM… excellent!

Mostly, Thanks for sharing!

Both of these are very well done. I see only a two points that concern me. First I have never seen hair that yellow on that boy, except for dye jobs. On the sign on the eastern front vignette should be either in german or Russian, not English to make it more poignant. Otherwise call it the “Bulge” or “winter in the west”. Otherwise the workmanship is very well done. I for one would need to improve my figure painting.

TUT TUT, now you know we are not allowed to mention the inaccuracies of MM’s builds.

cough Panzerfaust cough

Yes indeed. One was interviewed as well.He pops up from time to time on the History/Military channels when they are doing shows on Uncle Adolph.

Always wondered if he made it. I would think he’d be a celebrity of sorts. Imagine the history of that handshake.

I do not know a lot about the context of this handshake. …it looks like a propaganda moment. And a model of such a moment made long after the event looks a lot like neo-nazi adoration…there is nothing about the model to make me think otherwise. I think its pretty distasteful

I did not know the Russians posted bi-lingual signs in 1941. How very considerate of them.

You’re reading way too much into that. This was a moment of history in April, 1945, nothing more. So does that mean we’re all neo-nazis for building anything WW II German? What does it mean if we model Imperial Japanese stuff? Or Soviet weaponry?

We model the weapons of war, not the ideology that goes with it. Sssshhheeeshhhh.

Vespa, In my opinion you are way out of line. to just about accuse the builder of neo-nazi adoration is so far off base. As was said in the previous post it was only a moment in time, a moment in history and I am SURE it wasn’t anything more than that. I think your accusation is distasteful. I think you really should remember that we are modelers, not neo-nazis. We just modeling slices of our world history, both the good and the bad. I have a few books on German tanks, some with swastikas. Am I a neo-nazi? Is that propaganda? Of coarse not.

Now,in regards to the models, What a great job. The figures really capture that moment. I hope one day to have that talent. WOW!

To Vespa Boy:

That handshake was a propaganda moment. However, I see it the exact opposite way you do. To me it’s a tired old madman wasting the youth of his nation in a futile attempt to stop the inevitable. The scene to me is very chilling. I also think you owe the OP and the one who did the work an apology. Such dioramas lead to discussions(like this) which prevent the atrocities performed by those of that ilk to be sanitized, swept under a rug, and forgotten.

This isn’t a knock on a fine piece of work, but there’s just no way to capture the look on that dying [please insert disease of your choice], mad, mass murderer, third most prolific in the history of the human race. “Chilling”? I think we need a new adjective.

I agree, I couldn’t think of anything else, maybe horrifying? There are few things as despicable as destroying the innocence of a child by sending him or her to war for your selfish gains. I don’t have the vocabulary to adequately express my feelings with the original footage, which I think is a good thing.

This propaganda moment was used to make, Hitler look good in the public’s eye, according to the designs of his PR team. I have to ask myself why would someone want to take the time and/or money to reproduce this particular scene in another medium (ie take a photo and make a 3-d plastic version) and not add some more insight into it. In doing this they leave themselves open to criticism. It is my opinion that depicting this scene crosses the line where one can simply say: “This is history”. It is so much more complex than that, and more thought and insight is needed by the modeller.

Vespa Boy, you ask way too much of the original poster. All that matters is that the kit is out there and he has paid someone to paint/assemble it for him.

Vespa, might as well save your breath. MM has a cool way of dealing with criticism, he just ignores it. There have been a couple of thread that have ended up being heated about his stuff. If you read a recent one, as in last week, you will see this clearly. He is not interested in historical accuracy, if he was he wouldn’t have a Panzerfaust in a 1941 Dio, and he is not interested in your view unless you are patting him on the back or kissing his back side. Don’t waiste your time.

Well I see that the “fans” of ‘Model Maniac’ haven’t lost their touch when it comes to the personal remarks. As far as the subject matter of the first set, I have to admit that I am surprised that there is even a figure set available of the man.

I am really liking the photos shot through the magnifying glass, especially the last one. That is a great look that I find totally captivating.

As far as the thought that ‘Model Maniac’ is trying to put forth any “worship” of the Nazi ideology, I too think that is an over the line comment. In the time I have been on this forum, I have never seen ‘Model Maniac’ ever post any political commentary, much less profess any admiration for that particular crowd. Perhaps ‘vespa boy’ has seen something that I have not.

Thank you for all kind feedbacks and comments, I’ll try to respond to some of these.

BaBill212 - thanks for your kind compliments. It’s my pleasure to share.

telsono - thanks for your kind comments and suggestions. I agree with you about the hair color and the sign’s language.

Bish - These’re not my own builds, but anyone can comment on anything here.

TD4438 - Thanks for joining this thread and providing the answer. Luckily the Fuhrer didn’t survive.

vespa boy - That’s your own interpretation and many people here disagree with you. You should read tigerman’s, Chazzer’s and The Navigator’s comments. I myself buy anything military and have them built. The Fuhrer will reappear again today in another vignette, and if you don’t like him, just don’t look.

Chazzer - thanks for your kind comments on the build. After this I’ll post another vignette of the Fuhrer painted by another modeler. You may compare it with this one.

PaintWithBrush - Thanks for your kind words and understanding. I made use of magnifying glass so as to take close-up images of small items like 1:35 figures and vignettes.

Yep, fully aware of that. Though it seems some are not. Though that is not your fault as you clearly say who the builder is. But, if you did really welcome negative comments, you would reply to them in a way other than you did.
