The Airfix Welcome Back GB from Jan 07 to Dec 07

Yes, 2007 we welcome back Airfix! New kits include a Nimrod, a Canberra, and, er, well, other stuff too. Hornby have taken over Airfix, are moving the headquarters to their own site, in Margate, Kent, and have out-sourced production to China.

There is a rumour that the only reason that Hornby bought Airfix (and Humbrol) was due to the Airfix Farewell GB [:)], so let’s all jump in, and build another Airfix kit, and remind ourselves what’s so good (and, not so good), about possibly the oldest surviving kit manufacturer.

This GB is for any kit marketed under the Airfix name (including Arii, Trumpeter, etc kit that Airfix sold under their name), from trains, figures, space, aircraft, birds, sci-fi, buildings, cars, tanks, to just about anything else that takes your imagination. If you want to start now, well, I do say that it can be already started…(just don’t finish before the start date!)

Badge:

Rules (almost the same as the Farewell build):

  1. Must be sold as an Airfix kit, or be from an original Airfix mould.
  2. OOB, bar ariels, rigging, decals, and seatbelts (in other words, plastic stays the same)
  3. Can be combined with any other GB
  4. Kit can be already started
  5. Any kit, any scale
  6. Make it a celebration of the wonderful Airfix company!
  7. If possible, a scan of the box art

I’m in! Probably with a Spitfire. LOL [;)]

Let me check the stash osher and see what falls out.

A Spitfire Jon? I’m surprised![8D]

Hey Dave, cool, let me know!

Glad to have you two onboard! Naturally I’m on, with a 1/72 Spitfire, one of the special 50th anniversary edition ones. As I’m off a few days into the new year (to the Caribbean for 2 years, hence, without modelling), I’ll be starting it before the start date (but finishing during the build)

Yeah- how 'bou that? I only have 8 different ones in the stash! LOL

You can’t model in the Caribbean? It’s not worth the trip! [;)]

Let me see…sun, sand, sea, gorgeous women, hot weather, new enviroment, chance to explore, and earning twice what I would in England. That or modelling due to foul weather (is that why modelling was born in England, because of the weather?)? Hmmm, tough choice…

I just bagged an airfix MTB off E-Bay for $4.55 a couple weeks ago so sign me up

Welcome onboard shipmate! (sorry, couldn’t resist!)

Hi Osher,

Count me in, I’ll be there like a shot! Not sure what I’ll build yet, I’ll review my stash and see if I can run to that Spitfire 24 I’ve been lusting after…

I picked up some RLM 83 today for my Farewell subject, I still have hopes of getting the little feller done by year’s end.

PanzerWulff’s MTB set me thinking – there was discussion on these boards not long ago of the Airfix (?) Air Sea Rescue Launch kit, and I may be of help on that subject, as I photographed the preserved ASR boats at the RAF Museum, Hendon, in London, a couple of weeks ago, during my all-day visit to the museum. The weather was grey and the light poor, but I got four detail shots of the boats in external storage there. If anyone wanted to tackle that subject, I could make the photos available.

Cheers,

TB379

Hey Osher, here we go again. I was wondering when this GB would pop up. Glad to hear all the great news about Airfix and eagerly looking forward to the new year and new items from the new makeover of Airfix. I started a Spitfire Mk V/ Seafire MkIII but had to stop due to other commitments on other GB. I will not be able to work on it until Jan anyway so I will be doing it as a Seafire MKIII. Good to be building with you guy’s again. Steve.

For drokks sake osher!!! 1/48 Super Etandard Argentinian Navy May 1982.[:(!]

Got to check the cache if there is one in there count me in![tup]

Okay, I’m in on this too. I have a helicopter and a couple of ships to choose from. I’ll let you know and shoot/scan the boxart for you soon.

Now we got to find a new Group Badge!

[tup] Okay Osher, I found one. If it qualifies count me in.

It is a 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf110C/D [yeah]

I have that kit as well I wanted to build it for the Battle of Britan build but it was aircraft only,so in short PICCY’S PLEEEEEEEASE[;)]

Thunder, Sidure, traveller, TGregory, Duke, welcome one and all to the GB! Have fun! Remember, you can start now, but the official start date is the 1st January.

Badge now added to the first post. Thanks to jwb for the badge!

Hmmm… I shook the stash pile and the only thing to fall out with the airfix name on it was a Do 217 E/J with a couple of cracked canopies. Not sure I’ll be into building that one for awhile but put me down for it anyway. I may have to find something else to inspire me.

Count me in as well. I have a Airfix 1/48 DH Mosquito FB VI that should fit the bill. Will post a photo of the box soon, it is a little large to scan. Mike

Hmmm… I didn’t realize that my kit was the 'TOP SECRET CRACKED CANOPY" version. It might be a collector’s item! [;)] Thanks for pointing that out Osher.
