The Airfix Welcome Back GB from Jan 07 to Dec 07

Well, I did the farewell GB, I guess its my moral obligation as an Airfix fan to do the welcome back GB also. Besides, sounds like fun. Count me in for something a little more modern kit-wise this time, a Seafire FR.46, though it may be a month or two before I start while I clean off the bench.

Hi PanzerWulff, I’ll sort out those photos of the ASR Launch for you and get them up at PhotoBucket (it’ll be an adventure, my first image posting!) Glad to be of help! The Fw 190 is going together well, it really is one of Airfix’s better classic kits, and the molds have really aged well – barely any flash, and the bits line up real close. I must take a dive at it and get the beast done. I’ve lots in my stash but nothing that begs to be built just now, at least nothing I’ve got room to store… The C-130 in New Zealand markings would be a great build, but where to put it until I have a display case has me beat! It’s not just space, either – dust is the modellers worst enemy, and I’m paranoid about longterm open storage spoiling the finish we work so hard to acheive. You can dust them off, but eventually dust will find its way into the paintwork, especially matt finishes. I’ll go for something a bit smaller – we’ll see what comes along. I was considering the U-2 they released, probably Italeri in origin (I’m guessing), with unusual markings, but in the weeks I was away in England my closest outlet seems to have (finally) a serious run on Airfix. Cheers, TB379

Hi,

put me down for this GB. I’ve already signed up for the ‘Once were Warriors’ GB using the BBMF boxed set I got for last Xmas, so I might as well join this GB as well since it is 3 kits. I won’t be able to start the build until the summer though.

The set consists of Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster in 1/72. I’ll build all 3.

Paul

Just for something different, I’ll do their 54mm 1776 British Grenadier. I don’t think that mold has seen the light of day for a decade or two. I’ve actually started it, will post a picture soon.

Cheers

Tony

Welcome back jeff, and hello to paul_toz and taxtp! Nice to have you onboard.

Wont be doing much over the silly season I’m afraid!!![banghead]

Got a digital camera for Christmas and still need to post a pic of the box top, so here goes:

1/48 scale Seafire FR. 46/47. This is one of Airfix’s more modern kits, and most reviews I have found of it have been generally positive. I’m going with the FR46 mainly because I don’t think the FR47’s camo scheme is as cool as the FR46, and the FR47s chin intake spoils the planes beautiful lines somewhat. And darn it, thats what its all about – looking cool on the shelf [;)]!!

Looking forward to building with you guys. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Well, I stuck my foot in my mouth and said I would build a 1/72 IL-28 Beagle for the Fairwell GB and didn’t even get it started. How about I try to redeem myself and get it built for the Welcom Back GB?

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

I’d say go for it. This time, I hope you do get it built too, I’d like to see how you do it.

Welcome to the Welcome Back GB!!!

Hi,

can I change my kit?

Iwas going to do the BBMF Memorial boxed set, but couldn’t start until the summer as I was also doing it as part of the ‘Once Were Warriors’ GB. I looked at my stash and have another couple fo old Airifx kits. They will no doubt cause me some headaches, but I can start them straight away.

So can I change kits and do a 1/72 Bristol Belvedere please?

Paul

Of course you can Paul! Consider it done

I’m in for the TSR.2, seems appropriate for a welcome back since it was one of the last kits produced by the old Airfix, wasn’t it?

John, outstanding choice! I was hoping a TSR.2 would pop up in one of the Airfix group builds. That kit is on my short list of must have kits, though I’m too cheap to pay ebay prices for it. I’m hoping it will be rereleased shortly now that Airfix is getting back on its feet. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Now I’m off to decode Humbrol paint callouts for my Seafire FR46. Hopefully, Airfix Mk.2 will fix this annoying problem with their instructions and give color information in something other than Humbrol paint numbers!

Greetings from across the pond. Is it too late to join in this GB, if it is not I have a DH Mossie in 1/72nd that I would like to contribute.

Cheers [#toast],

Eric

Hi to all, I hope everyone had a great silly season!!! We have the whole year of modelling ahead of us!!! I am finishing off a Harrier GR3 that was supposed to be done for the farewell build, but things got in the way!! I am on the second repaint, as I botched the first. I hope to finish that soon so I can continue on my Jaguar, and make a start on the Super Etendard. After that, I think a 72nd F-14A, and F-15A’s. Does it matter if I use aftermarket decals? In the meantime, I have to study for a promotion that will take me back to Sydney to work. Means more money, more chance to buy more kits!!![}:)]

Hi Folks,

Here’s some scans of the box art for my kit. The plastic bubble pack had disintegrated so I feel comfortable that I’m not desecrating a collector’s item.

I’ve actually made a start, photos soon.

Cheers

Tony

Welcome aboard Eric! Sorry for not responding sooner, still getting over my NYE and leaving party!

Welcome welcome! If I had the time, I’d build one too. I’ve got a small stash of those kits in storage. Quite a few problems with it though.

No, that’s fine
