Wait…what?

Is that 1/32???

How did I miss news of this kit?

Nice to see Tamiya branch out beyond the Spitfire - and the P-51 seems the next obvious choice. Popular, not well-represented in 1/32, etc. I think the Corsair would’ve been a cool choice, too, but the Mustang makes a ton of sense…and should be pretty easy to follow with a B/C as well.

I also notice that’s a filletless -D. Assuming that means they’ve one-upped the 1/48 kit with the ability to build fillet or no fillet.

A nice addition, indeed… lots of bells and whistles

Cool as the full engine & awesome interior is on the Spitfire it would make sense for them to produce two versions like Edward does. A ‘weekend edition’ without all the extras would appeal to those on a budget or ones intimidated by high parts count / complicated interior details.

The extras can be sold separately as a up grade for their & others 1/32 scale kits.

As much as I agree, it’s not exactly possible with the way the Tamiya Spit is designed. Haven’t started building mine yet, but I’ve washed the sprues and spent enough time with the instructions to have a feeling for it.

The biggest issue is that the engine and engine mount/framework is integral to construction. The prop, exhausts, cowl panels, etc all mount up to it. Very much like Zvezda’s La-5, there’s no way to build the plane without building the engine. Its PE doesn’t go anywhere as far as what Eduard includes in their Profi-pack, releases, either, so I don’t know that deleting it would really save all that much.

Plus, in my experience, the only real difference between Eduard’s Profipacks and Weekends is the presence/absence of PE, masks and extensive marking options. Their 109 Weekends include the same plastic as the PPs.

All that said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Tamiya chill on the features that most modelers don’t seem to really care about (articulating landing gear, for example). Or I guess they could go Dragon-style and include a sprue of parts to overcome the engine/cowl issue. But I don’t think those moves would shave the price in half.

Now the real question…I think it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion we’ll be seeing a 1/32 P-51B/C in the near future.

But what about a 1/32 F-82 Twin Mustang?

Personally I’d rather see them try to bring the Allison Stangs into the picture (harder, though), but the idea of a Tamiya 1/32 F-82 makes me snicker.

1:32 F-82, would you like an extra room on your house with that? That would be a big bird, not as big as the 32nd B-17 though. Still bit. But its about time someone else bought out an F-82.

an F4U would be awesome but more wanted the slang. people were saying the F4U was to boring of an aircraft for tamiya to make into a 32nd. i was soo soo close on picking up tamiyas 32nd Mk.xvie today.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Corsair is next. Tamiya’s already got very, very good 1:48 kits, and from what I’ve read, Trumpeter’s F4Us can be handfuls.

But I bet the Mustang sells better than the Corsair, and it’s only competitors in 1:32 are already pretty much agreed to be “not great”.

One I doubt we’ll ever see - a 1:32 Tamiya P-47. Trumpeter and Hasegawa kits are already very good…

i never gave trumpeter a try. true on the 32nd P-47. i need to grab the hase kit. didn’t you build one Doogs?

I think thier next 1/32 kit will be either the FW-190, or the BF-109. British, American - next would either be German or Japanese, right?

This looks like a benchmark kit to me, really well done!

Interesting, but the rivet detail on the wing is horrible.
