Tamiya Macchi MC 200 Saetta in 1:48 Completed

Well I think the only Tamiya part of this kit is the name on the box. The canopy was a challenge and of course I managed to get glue on the inside of it. The landing gear was very fragile and required repair…several repairs. I made a template to spray on the splotches but that didn’t work so well so I just airbrushed them on. The strangest part of the kit is that the wings are not symetrical. I’m not sure if that’s how it really was or if the kit is a bit mucked up but it did make it more of a pain to paint the yellow and apply decals.

Very, very nice . The paint scheme came out perfect.

Looks fine to me Robert.

I understand about getting glue on clear parts - it’s something I must consciously try to avoid whenever I’m near kit canopies or other clear plastic. Somehow it just happens anyway [:$].

Out of curiousity, what color did you use for the cowl ring?

Thank you I used model master Russian Armor Green, Tan, Earth Red and Rlm 77. Originally I used Rlm 79 but that looked too dark. The tan looked too light but the overspray from the earth red darkened it

That color is Testors Aztek Pearl copper. I thought it matched the pics I’ve seen pretty well

That camo is killer! Despite the difficulties encountered, I think this is an impressive build.

Oh yeah, that mottled camo looks superb. Very well executed!! [B]

Thanks guys. I just wish I could get the hang of panel washes. This kit would have been perfect for that. No matter what I try whether it be tamiya panel wash or oil based wash on acrylic it seems to smear around the lines and I can’t remove the smears. I’ve tried detailer washes on both acrylic and testors gloss coat but I can never seem to be able to completely remove the excess. Also tried thinned acrylic paint on gloss coat that hasn’t worked for me either so I airbrush the panel lines

I think you nailed it with the Testors Aztec Pearl Copper. The build is excellent!

Your friend, Toshi

Thank you Toshi. You are most kind

Excellent work, and a beautiful paint job.

Thanks Brandon!

I love how she came out. The camo looks perfect as well as the pre-shading on the yellow, which I’ve always had issues with.

And I think I read somewhere the wing wasn’t symetrical on the real thing.

As to washes you might try the Flory brand stuff. I’ve been using them sometime and they’re pretty foolproof. I forgot which US dealer I ordered mine though.

Thanks Gamera. I’ve tired to find those before but my internet searches come up blank. I know they don’t have them in any of the local model shops

Good looking build. The fried egg camo is tough to pull off.

Hmm, checked and I ordered them from Sprue Brothers. But they seem to have dropped the line since they only list a handful of items now. Good luck, I’m sure someone carries them or something similar.

You can get them from Hannants if you want to wait a little longer for shipping. They’re pretty quick though.

Thank You My brother said it looked like frog camo[:D]

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like Hannats might be clearing out of the Flory washes. I don’t know what colors they normally come in but they have 3 and it looks like they are on clearance.

Hmm. Bish still gets them, I wonder where he buys them from?
