Tamiya Citroen Traction 11 CV 1/35 Scale

Hi guys, recently recieved the New Citroen 11CV available now in 1/35 as well as 1/48 scale from Tamiya.

The car I’m building will in the end be parked on the street of May, 1940 France in a military model diarama I will later build, but the car itself will be civilian, and in fairly good condition. In the scene, a businessman is stepping from his Citroen, parked at the curb, and watching as german armor rolls in, with it’s confident panzer crews even eyeing “thier” new car.(many of these were jacked by the Wermacht and made into staffcars, and so Tamiya has presented decals,paint instructions, and even a German driver figure in the box)

The brilliant little kit can be dry fitted easy as this

But I assembled only as far as this for painting, as I want a two-tone +chrome, seems best to assemble after painting, especially for an armor/diorama guy like me, trying for something like a (French Rolls Royce)

Of course they came in a lot of colors over the years

I began by filling/sanding injection pin marks found on the floorboards & door liners, as well as parting lines from the rear fenders, and the front portion on the bonnet,as the crease should be there at the rear of the top edge, but dissapears about a third of the way forward.

Painting started with the interior in XF-55 Deck Tan, per the destructions instructions

When I was sure it had cured, I added a filter of Floquil Roof Brown, to show depth & wear

The next day, I masked off all the interior to prevent over-spray

At first I reached for the Tamiya tape, put used 3M green’Frog"tape instead, for it’s greater ‘tack’. This tape tends to be safe on paint layers,(fingers crossed) and no residue like the blue tape. I just guessed I’d probably blow the window tape free while I was spraying… After trying a few black paints I have, I liked the look Floquil Engine Black I think it gave a nice semi-gloss with a thin-as-possible application. Although it’s dry pretty fast, I’ll leave it alone over night.

I also got started on the owner of this car

Primered, then skin-areas base-coated with Tamiya XF-60 Dark yellow / the airbrush

Nice. I saw this kit for the first time at friend of mine yesterday. May have to get the 1/48th scale kit as it well fit in with my 1/43 stuff. Need to find that Hasegawa BMW as well.

I have the Citroen in both 35th & 48th and wow… They are both jems!! Looking forward to your updates

Hey Guys…Elite, Fox Lewbud, Butz…thanks guys for your interest and check’in in with encouragement. The more I research this old sedan the more I come to love it’s lines. Looking through Citroens, they have made some(to my American eye) very peculiar and interesting quirky autos, worthy of further study. The Traction 11 was just a good looking car, then and now. The best of the bunch looks like the much more rare 15CV that featured a 6-cylinder engine instead of the common 4

As far as my model goes, it was quite a day in the shop today(nearly 'one of those days") so I have a minimal update. I got all the tiny bits off the sprue and cleaned up and base-coated black(streering collum,handles,ect.)as well as getting the rear fenders masked off with some Tamiya tape so I can shoot the main body color. I also did the next step on my driver figure

A few washes of darkened Floquil Tuscan, and set that aside again.

I got my silver applied, and dry-fitted again to take a look…

Having no real reference for 1940 silver, I mixed one I liked, returning to basics, namely trusty 'ole Testors Enamels, Silver,with a little Fl.Black added if you ever wondered about why silver gets undercoated with black, you can see a side by side comparison here on this grey styrene. Part on right undercoated with black. Left not. All those X-tra parts that come in Dragon kits are really handy for something. TESTS ! Mind you, this is just 1 pass witht the silver in the airbrush for emphasis here. One more ‘shortcoming’ with the kit some of us read about, was the classic Tamiya “sponsons” issue. I suppose I’ll add some styrene strip under there before the wheels go on, as I don’t like that much. Dry-fit for my ‘driver’ figure(still looking forward to having paint time for him!)

I am so getting this kit. I’m thinking mine will be a custom color and interior. Could be more specific about the “sponson issue”. Looking forward to more pics. May have found my kit for the Weekend GB.

~ I shot my bodywork(in parts) l(with Future) as I want to see as much shine as possible on my car (at least for now)

It shows up on the fenders alot more than the body(you’ll see before too long)Above shot is pre-Future

I shot a bit of Future freehand on the hubs, just not spreading out to the tire, easy to see the difference : I noticed the airbrush makes a great desktop reference for chrome. Tuff getting it onto that moulded-on hub nicely? ? I’m guessing I’ll use the 'ole circle template trick .(when I finnaly get my bottle of Chrome delivered! Until then, I supose I can mask the windows, & paint the driver

Oh…and the "sponsons issue’—sorry, was talking armor-speak there. It’s a well known flaw of the mostly great Tamiya M4 Sherman kits, that the area under the fenders(just over the track)at the hull joint, has a huge opened gap. The gap is usually never seen from the outside, but if you display any interior it is easily seen, and quite ‘unseemly’. This otherwize great kit has the same flaw, and it’s worse, as you can always see right into the car(limo-tint glass is OUT on this car)At least on a tank you can button it up and not worry~~~~~

Nice job on a not so typical subject (the car and the figure both). I really like the look of the wear and tear on the hat that the figure is wearing. Thanks for sharing the WIP photos, they are well done too.[tup]

The 1/35 CV11 is a brand new kit ~ if you ask me, not enough 1/35 civilian car kits out there to fit our Dio needs(nearly zero!) so I got this one right away. ( A new Opel is coming out too in 1/35 from Bronco) The figure is from Verlinden, WWII Civilians(2 fig)

If you ask me, I like my painting / color choices alot better than the boxart. If you never looked at alot of Verlinden figures, you’ll find they often give you something to improve on(unlike Alpine, who have a finer moulding standard, but the box art by Calvin Tan just cannot be improved upon. That gives you a four star model to try to meet, but something few if any will ever reach) Anyways, Verlinden has by far the best selection and prices in resin except maybe Warriors, though both of these brands tend to scale-out a bit larger than the Alpine, which seem closer to Dragon figures, from what I’ve seen. Best place to look at Verlinden :
