Ok freak’n finally!!! I was not prepared for just how long this thing would take me.
This is the second model I’ve finished since taking modeling up again. My first large scale and my fist time painting with an airbrush. There are lots of mistakes and I’m far from a rivet counter. If I think it looks cool I go with it.
So here is my 1/32 Tamiya F15E Eagle. [8-]
Here’s the OOB intake. I think it looks ok. Nobody will ever pick my model up and shine a light in there so the visible seem doesn’t bother me.
if i were you i would have to have the speed brake match the rest of the airframe as it is a different shade. also clean up under the left aileron, and exhaust nozzles. i will say though you have done a very nice job on it . i have the same one. i have all of tamiyas 1/32 kits that they manufacture.all are built too. keep up the good work
If you look at pictures of F15E’s you’ll notice the speed brake is a different shade then the airframe, as is the nose. That’s one of my biggest mistakes, the nose is darker and the brake is lighter. I didn’t double check and ended up the other way. Also when I changed the tint of the paint it looked more subtle than when it dried!!
It’s funny as I was looking over the pictures I was seeing stuff to work on I didn’t notice before. There are a couple other things to do as well. Anybody notice there is no arresting hook?? [(-D]
Haha, Max…you’re supposed to screen the photos before you post them to get rid of incriminating shots! And I know what you mean about the long, drawn out build. I just finished one myself. They’re not that bad when you’re constantly working on it becuase you feel you’re making progress, but when you have long voids in between bench time you lose the “mojo” and sacrifice quality for speed…at least I do.
I’d say your first airbrush effort and large scale were successes. Now that the dark side of airbrushing has a hold of you, what’s you’re next project?
Gotta love that Eagle. Great work, thanks for sharing.
I think it looks very good. And as far as the radome and speed brake paint not matching up, parts are constantly being replaced on a real aircraft and the paint doesn’t always match. Excellent job.
AWESOME job!! I think it looks ready to fly!!! Yours is the incentive I needed to get mine going.
I just received all my supplies to finally get my projectrs off the ground. First up is the Revel/German F-4F (converted to E) in Euro colors. Then it’s on to the F-15E Strike Eagle. I order it next week.
Seeing that this is my “new” start in modelling after a long layout, any tips on the Strike Eagle build that could save me some time/headaches??
Looks just like the real deal I saw on the ramb at Luke AFB a few weeks ago - great looking Eagle!
One question - what shade of grey did you use on the upper surfaces? That’s the bluish shade I’ve been trying to figure out since I saw them in person. So far, all of my colors seems too “grey” without the bluish tint in them.
I just used MM Gunship Gray (enamel). Some of those pictures were taken outdoors so I wonder if the bluish tint is my white balance on my camera playing tricks. I used Future and Pollyscale flat coat.
This was interesting. Back in December Rolls Wood Group put out their annual calender. This years theme was planes. Well I was looking through it and my jaw dropped when I saw this:
Here we can see the darker nose and lighter air brake. But I painted on a weekend and the calender was at work so I couldn’t check it… thus ending up doing it the other way around! What a huge coincidence that was!! Today I took a picture of the page.
