SU-35 Airshow Video

SU-35 Airshow Movie

Cool movie of an SU-35 going through the paces at an airshow. Some amazing maneuvers.

Could not load the link. Too bad, I really wanted to see this.

Hmmm, maybe it doesn’t like being hotlinked. Try this:

i just dont know what to say. if i were flying anything else but another Su-35 against an Su-35 i would be scared . very scared.

VERY COOL!!! Reggie, thinkin the same thing. So, along those lines…

Will a JSF or F22 be able to hold its own with the SU-35? This plane appeared to be a lot more manuverable then I thought. I assume that is because of the front canard wings, but, I am so NOT an expert in anyway, shape or form.

Not knowing what the radar and weapons load out will be, maybe that will be the difference?

Wonder how JSF/F22 will stack up against the Eurofighter, Rafale, and Grippen.

All I can say is what came from the USAF in a press release out of the Operational Testing which was just rolled up:

The F/A-22 Raptor demonstrated “overwhelmingly effective” warfighting capability according to the Initial Operational Test and Evaluation report by the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M.

“The Raptor operated against all adversaries with virtual impunity,” said Maj. Gen. Rick Lewis, Air Force program executive officer for the F/A-22. “The ground-based systems couldn’t engage the Raptor, and no adversary aircraft survived. That is air dominance, and that’s exactly what the Raptor was designed to give us.”

In addition to the forward canards, remember the second portion showed the plane just before rolling to takeoff…it has vectored exhaust nozzles. The Russians have always “brute-force” engineered their aircraft; we, in the west, look at their fit and finish and “disposable” engines and think that our a/c are superior. Not so…the Russians have had an advantage over the U.S. since at least the mid-1980’s, in both aircraft maneuverobility (sp?) and avionics. The Russians have had a helmet-mounted radar control for years, basically if the pilot could see you, he could get radar lock.

I’m glad we’ve never had to go head-to-head with them. They would have annihilated us.

GEEZ…this thing is… FREAKISHLY maneuverable!! I think by judging from the video this thing has a tighter turning radius at 500 kts, than I do in my 18-wheeler at 2 mph.

I do agree that this thing in itself is a force to be reckoned with, but I think (and this is just my opinion MACooke) that the training available to U.S. pilots (TOPGUN/NSAWC,RedFlag,USAF FWS,just to name a few) is the best in the world.Granted ‘Maverick’ would probably crap his pants at the very thought of dogfighting with this beast ,but I don’t think he would have been ‘Flanker fodder’ . I think that the U.S. concentrates more on ‘beyond visual range’ engagements, for the very reason so that he does not have to engage in the so-called ‘knife fight in the phone booth’ type of situation. But I have to admit…it probably gives very sombering thoughts to the most recent NSAWC graduates…just my [2c]

that was amazing , I was at RAF Fairford last year saw the Super Hornet i thought that was good , but the SU35 is awesome , thanks for sharing

This thing is definitely a beast against current systems. Do some research on last year’s Cope India exercise. They were using, among other systems, SU-30’s.

Here is one example: http://www.defensetech.org/archives/000976.html

The answer to this issue can be seen in my sig.

[edit: spelling]

That is so cool! I love the camo pattern that plane is sporting too!

hehe. that is AWESOME!!! I always new the russkies had it in them!!! Also, GO INDIAN AIRFORCE!!!

Absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing that with us![tup]

If a Super Hornet had canards, like that F-15S (?), would it be competitive with the Su-30?

The question is how much energy do you bleed off performing a maneuver like that. If you don’t win immediately you are a sitting duck. And if you are facing multiple opponents…

It is common knowledge in most NATO military forces, that foreign personnel are far superior in training and ability than equvalent personnel in US forces. So called “US special forces” is mearly standard training for the rest of the world.
US airforces regualrly get their butts handed to them in combined nation excersizes.

The truth is out there…

zugok: Interesting comment. While I was not an aircrew member, I was active duty USAF Law Enforcement in NATO, 84-88 in the UK, assigned to RAF Lakenheath, F-111F. That is the first time I have ever heard “US airforces regularly get their butts handed to them in combined nation excersizes.” Both from what I witnessed/ participated in and have read via evaluation reports, that was not the impression I received. Not saying we never lost, but, it sure didn’t fit the criteria you stated above.

Were you speaking ground forces or air ops?

Not being Spec Ops trained, I have no direct experience with their training methods. HOWEVER, I highly doubt that the level the US trains Spec Ops forces is the usual training syllabus for “regular” forces of any nation. My opinion is based on the cost and time involved for this level of training. But, I’m ready to be convinced otherwise.

I’ll stay out of the “who’s better” drama, but that certainly is some very impressive video! I hadn’t seen much footage of the “cobra” manuever before. Freaky!

Seems like those Sukhoi pilots like hard landings, though! I thought the nose gear was going to snap on that first touchdown.

Thanks for the link!

jhulk: you got that right! after watching it the second time, i kept looking for the nose to scrape the runway.

anyone: What is the value in the “cobra” maneuver? Is it used get your enemy to fly past you or used to stay on a ground target you are about to overfly? I always heard in aerial combat that “speed is life” and I assume the “cobra” must have a very specific function as you sure do lose your speed!

I think it’s to make a following enemy fly past… sorta like the “pull the brakes” from Top Gun.
