Spruebrothers Must be Crazy

I was looking for a bottle of MRP Paint for a specific color,

Cost $7.49

Shipping $14.49

You know where they can go that’s just plain greed.

Must be a typo

Just tried it, I got $14.99!

But it defaulted to expedited shipping. Standard shipping shows $8.99 which to me is still too much.

Not sure what they have in mind on the expedited shipping, since lacquers (I used an MRP lacquer for my test) can’t be shipped by air anyway. Maybe they are planning on sending my US Mail lady on the long haul, who drives through my neighborhood really fast. [:)]

I think of the mailman, oops, mailperson from the movie The Money Pit every time I see her and laugh a little.

No MRP for me.

With standard shipping one bottle is $16.93. It’s great paint and I’m a fan of their products but clearly that’s on the way high side. Whenever I order MRP paints from them I purchase several colors, models, and other supplies to offset the shipping.

No!

This is a sour part of all ordering and shipping right now. The Shipping is double or triple the price of the product. It has leaked over to food deliveries too. An order from Baskin-Robins (1 Mile away) was 8.96 and the delivery charge would’ve been 16.59.Went to D.Q. instead.

I guess they have a freezer for delivery? Ice cream, delivery, August, and Texas aren’t great combinations.

Yup. With Sprue Brothers, you definitely have to put together an order that justifies the cost of shipping it. I deal with shpping costs in and out when I’m processing my work orders at work, and Sprue Brothers shipping prices are pretty much in line with standard shipping costs. You just have to get enough in your box to make it worth it. That being said, I only needed one thing from Sprue Brothers the other day (some Evergreen styrene strip), so I ordered that one thing. Great price on the styrene strips ($2.99), and shipping was $5.29 for small parcel shipping. Yes, more than the item itself, but the shipping cost isn’t out of line with what the shipping companies all charge these days.

On the subject of MRP paint prices, those are 30ml bottles, and the paint is awesome. Well worth the money, IMHO.

I ordered 4 bottles of AK-Real Paints from an Ebay seller in Burbank CA on Tuesday Total shipping cost $5.68 delivery date is Mon 8/7

That makes more sense, now who does Spruebrothers think their fooling.

I have tried the expedited shipping, and it doesn’t get anything to you any faster than standard shipping, at least not in my area. Standard and small parcel generally go through USPS, while expedited shipping is usually UPS Ground (sometimes FedEx Ground). Pretty much any of them get stuff to me in 2 days.

They’re not fooling anyone. The Ebay sellers are losing money on shpping. [H]

My go-to for paint is ScaleHobbiest. Outstanding service.

Bill

Me too,but they don’t carry the MRP line

Check out Spraygunner too

Try spraygunner - not sure if they have MRP but they do carry a lot of different paints and airbrush stuff.

Many webstores calculate shipping based on the price of the item sold. Sprue Bros usually has some of the best prices around. It would probably be cheaper to order a kit and add a couple of bottles of paint to the order than to order the paint alone.

I’m in the UK, If I buy a kit from the USA the shipping cost has gone up from $27.95 to $42!

I thought Brexit was between us and Europe, what have we done to deserve this?

So the shipping cost can be twice the price of the kit!

Even here a few bottles of glue or very small tins of paint the shipping is £3.95 and you might only be twenty miles away!

I think it has a lot to do with the issues in haulage. But there also seem to be some new regualtions effecting the whole of Europe. Australian based AMP who sell AM parts for submarines have no stopped shipping to Europe completly as of 1st July. According to their website, small sales are no longer exempt from VAT, so maybe thats effecting the cost of those kits from the US. I seem to have missed this on the news and if this is an EU regulation, not sure why it is effecting us in the UK.

Edit: looks like we have signed up to these changes as part of the NI protocol. So we can all thank our friends in Brussels.

If the place you’re buying from is only 1 mile or 20 miles away from you and you don’t like the shipping/delivery fee, many places have an option for going to pick your order up. Personally, when I factor in the cost of fuel, the cost in time, and just general PITA factor of going even a few blocks down the street where I live (and possibly not having a place to park when I get back home), it just makes more sense to pay someone else to deal with that.

When someone sets up a shipment with FedEx or UPS, neither one of those places ask how many items are in the box or how much they cost (unless its an international shipment for the customs declaration). They are only interested in knowing the dimensions of the box (which they use to calculate dimensional weight for how much space it takes up in the truck or plane. (L X W X H)/194=dim weight) and the weight of the box. They charge the greater of those two figures, and the person doing the shipping has no say in the matter. Places that calculate shipping based on how many items you buy are losing money on the shipping if you’re only buying 1 or 2 items. Many of them are able to offset that loss with other things, but then there are some who get “cheaped” right out of business and then we’re left with fewer choices. I have seen this exact thing happen with my previous employer, and now the people that caused that can’t understand why my shop is the only one still standing. They also can’t understand why they have to wait so long to schedule something with us. Its all cause and effect.

It’s not like I’m writing them off,I have done that before, but there are times when you don’t need or want to buy a kit,you just want a couple of jars of paint.

I just tested Scalehobbyist for one bottle of paint,it was $5.95 shipping, makes more sense

I appreciate that [Y] I drive Grubhub for a little extra side scratch for gifts, kits and so on. I can make $50 plus for two hours of driving, and I’m going out anyway. Write off the millage, subtract about 20% for taxes, maybe $5 in gas and I gross $35. Not too bad when I can turn it on on a whim and the wife and I want to get out of the house. Sometimes I’ll get a massive tip. The other night my first order was $62 to pick up some BBQ and drop it off at a door…done.

Yeah, shipping prices have gone up, so I bundle an order, or just wait for SB weekend specials. Their price cut offsets the shipping I figure.
