Like many, the “Spares Box” sometimes gets pretty full, and sometimes it’s fun to just go through it and see what you can come up with, as this sharpens the imagination and scratch building techniques. Here’s some examples of my last such endeavor.
The amphibian solar electric “Skeeter”
Various pieces and how they came together.

The 3 bladed propeller is driven by an electric motor, with a Generator drive prop to keep the system at max charge. (and for night time operations)
I know this is off-the-wall, but it’s something I’ve just got into a habit of doing between projects, or when I get burnt out, and it seems to get my mind back on track for the production kits.
Pretty cool. It looks great especially since you used all different scales and such. Remember though… in this forum we obey the laws of conservation of energy [;)]
Thanks Dave! Conservation of Energy… well, it is Solar Powered! [:D]
Thanks cirikili, Swanny (yeah, that must be where he gets all his radical design idea’s [:D]), woodbeck3 (I had a 1/48 Benson B8M for a long time, but it got parted out for something else), Model Grandpa(Hmmmm… a “spare parts box group build”… now that might be interesting!), rjkplasticmod, upnorth (you should’ve seen it BEFORE the blue metal flake went on! [:0]), Brian, Randie, and Akuma.
To the dismay of my poor parents I use to do the same thing to my toys (make new ones out of the shiny -just-received-for-Christmas) always more interesting. Looks great show more stuff.
aww man, that is too cool Frank!!![tup][tup][tup] it definetly takes an imagination and talent to pull off something like that!! nice job on the pilot too. later.
That’s got to be one of the neatest things I’ve ever seen! I see all the amazing models that people on these forums build, but to be able to take a bunch of nonsense pieces and turn them into something that actually resembles a plane is unbelievable!!
that looks great, one question though. who did the ercoupe?. its a nice looking aircraft and i wouldn’t mind having one in my collection, would prefered 1/72 though but beggars can’t be choosers as the saying goes.
thanks for sharing.
Greg
It’s a very old kit, with the canopy molded in with the fuselage plastic, but THAT serves as a perfect mold for a clear transparency, thus motivating a scratch built cockpit. It’s a very basic kit with all kinds of potential! [;)]
Thanks manny prego (right on, man! I had a reputation for re-engineering things myself! never got over it… [;)]), salty, Joe, Jonathan… I really appreciate your kind words!
