Sherman Firefly in progress

hi this is my Firefly ive just painted is there anything i should do to it before i wash and weather it, ive used the Eduard PE set on it (well some) and a Jordi Rubio barrel, im thinking about getting some AFV club sherman working tracks for it and useing the Dragon tracks as extra armour.
i havnt put the perescope wire things on it yet (i forgot)[:)] but they are very fiddly.
in the PE set theres a radio box, is that just for the Korean conflict or did they all have them
any opinions and tips welcome[:)]

A Firefly [:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][^][^][^][^][^][^][^]

Yaaaaaa Baby !!!

What do you mean … not use the DML tracks.

Those engineering marvels that come with 3 pieces per indy … coward [;)] … They can be a bit of a bear, but they do look nice if you want to spend the time on them.

The British tanks did have a radio box on the back of their tanks so that infantry could communicate with the tank commander during W.W.II. I’m not sure if this is the one that is included in that set or not. The Americans used a form of this too, they used old ammo boxes for putting the handset in and mounted them on the rear of the AFV.

Looks great John … the Firefly is one of my favourites.

Thanks

Hey Sherm,

I have a bid on a DML Dragon Firefly…you are such a bad influence on me [}:)]

Capt,

Looks great so far, I will be using yours pics for some reference so, keep ‘em comin’!

Come over to the O.D. side Eric, you can feel the power drawing you ever closer.

[;)][;)][;)]

Looking nice Caveman…and Erock never turn to the Dark Side. Never!!!

Hey Capt,
Lookin good my friend!!
Flaps up, Mike

Hey, C.C., what is the scale? 1/35? Looking good!

Nice looking so far Caveman. Gee I’m surprised Shermanfreak likes it. [;)] It’s a nice piece and I have thought about that kit too, but the 3-piece tracks scare me silly. [V] Good luck, can’t wait to see it finished.

.

Thanks for all the encourigment
ive added the radio box (its a PE box just add wire) and a jerry can holder, thind the fenders (didnt add the PE) and im adding a .50 gun

and ive added some inside hatch detail[:)]

is the colour ok? i think its US ovive drab

Cavemen,

Try those indy tracks from dragon, it would be fun doing it. Yeah, 3 pieces per link. (Note: You can make them “working” too. Each main link has two pins on both ends, right? Glue one pin on each end to the designated lock while keeping the other free. Do this for all links and…tadaaa! a working track for you.

Imagine, I picked up a Dragon M4A4 with these tracks for my first ever WII armor since returning to the hobby. RUDE AWAKENING for a novice like me.

BTW, nice build.

Dear Captain Caveman (there I got it right),

Sorry for not spelling your name right.

Just as case fingers faster than the eyes…

Dwight Ta-ala no problem about the name.
the tracks are a knightmare lol

Looking good Captain C!!! That is coming along nicely and as you can tell everyone agrees with Shermanfreak even though he’d never say ANYTHING bad about a Sherman! [:p] [;)]

Keep the pics coming!

Eric

Looking great Jon, I have never made a firefly… but the pic is beginning to inspire. Does the barrel have a counter-wieght to add? The next kit I do is going to have a sprayed base coat… The thought of completly changing my old style is daunting, but I’ll give it a crack. What paint did you use, looks a bit glossier than the humbrol I generally buy.
Keep the pics coming,
Ian

Great looking Firefly, Caveman!

You really oughta use the Dragon links! Just think of the character you’ll build!
If they’re anything like the M4A3E8 tracks, the majority of the work is in cleaning 'em up.
Keep the pix coming!

Moses,

Naw, I’ll never be converted…Too much Tiger in my blood [}:)]

J-Hulk … the Easy-8 tracks are a walk in the park compared to the other DML Sherman tracks. The end connectors are separate pieces so it takes three parts to make up one complete track pad.

Sherm,

The way I see it, the hull of this Firefly looks like it is the same as that of the M4A4 also by Dragon.
Am I correct?

Absolutely right Dwight … the Firefly Vc was based on the M4A4 hull.

Very nice build. Might make me think about building targets, er, uh, armor again. - Ed
