Royal Australian Air Force Centenary Group Build

G’day mates one and all!

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), was formed on 31st March 1921 and followed on from the Australian Flying Corps (AFC), itself formed on 22 October 1912.
This GB marking the centenary of formation of the Royal Australian Air Force will run for 12 months from 31st March 2021 to 31st March 2022.

So Cobbers, dig through the stash and get your flying kangaroos on the bench!

Subjects can be anything in RAAF or AFC service, flying or otherwise.

Happy to include planes flown by RAAF pilots in other air forces, or captured aircraft rebadged and flown by RAAF units.

RAAF/AFC has taken part in most of the 20th century’s major conflicts. The AFC was involved in the Western front, Mesopotamia and the Dardanelles during WWI. In the Second World War RAAF squadrons served in Britain, with the Desert Air Force and into the Mediterranean. From 1942, many RAAF units fought in South West Pacific Area.

Since then, RAAF has been involved in the Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Indonesia–Malaysia Confrontation and the Vietnam War. This century, the RAAF has participated in operations in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, East Timor as well as myriad humanitarian operations.

Happy with crossovers (I have a few in mind myself)

I’m in, Airfix 1/72nd Beaufighter TF.X.

Love the badge options.

Good stuff Bish, nice choice.

SEA or European scheme, or a surprise?

First real go at badges, happy with the results.

No surprise, European. I have a set of AM decals, it an aircraft of 455 Sqn based at Langham in Norfolk in 44.

great looking badges…now its harder to decide which one.

Im in with a spitfire VIII, 1/48 eduard. still waiting on some decals.

You know I’m in - Hasegawa 1/48th Spitfire Mk VIII.

And don’t tell Bish how awesome the Spit is- not only did it win the war in Europe against the Germans and Italians it then crossed the Pacific and crushed the Japanese Empire… [;)]

It also saves kittens from trees and feeds starving children by all accounts.

LOL, Oh man, now that’s funny.

I guess the Hellcat, Mustang, Corsair and Lightning were just there for target practice [;)]

Just giving you some jazz Gam.

Running the Supermarine GB must be really hurting you Bish!

Nick, Cliff you are on the board!

I won’t mention my own Mk VIII yet, my first will be a Russian (ex Frog) Vultee Vengeance 1/72, bought for 50 koruna in Czech republic in 1994

No box shot available, it was in a plastic bag when I bought it!

G’day Lost. I was going to enter this with an old Otaki MkVIII Spit. But if crossovers are ok, I will go with a vacform 1/32 Boomerang that I’m about to start on for the ground support GB.

Is this acceptable? Never built a vacform before, but I’ve got good references, lots of patience and grog!

Would it be fair dinkum if the bloody kit was already stahrted? I av a raaf 1/72 ‘asegawah Mitchell Mk.iii with RAAF mahrkings I could finish fawr this. Basically all I av done is pahrtially assemble the bloody interiawr. The RAAF version is a pretchoo dardy Bahah metal finish, mate. I was gonnah do in RAF mahrkings with a olive drab ‘n light blue bottom, but thats just ***in’ bawrin’ ****. Bloody oath cobber.

****in’ too right, mate.

Mate, your fellow modelers love the Spitfire. It was one of Britain’s finest aircraft in the Second World War.

Harold

Strewth Deeve you talk 'strine like a dingo!

Dodgy, that is a ripper model there - love someone willing to have a shot at a vacform! And an Aussie model of an Aussie plane - perfect!

Got you both on board

Can’t wait to get this one done. Been sitting with the interior half done for over a year.

Lost, I would like to join up too with an 1/48 Aussie Eight, Eduard #1188.

Harold

Lost, having a hairy week but after this I’d like to join with a Special Hobby Brewster Buffalo in 32nd (SH 32013.) If time permits, maybe a smaller one too (Mark I models MKM14446 in 1/144th)

Sergeant, that is supposed to be a very nice kit to build, looking forward to it.

Patrick, the Buffalo! Not the best airplane by all accounts, but it was there when needed!

I will put you both up now
