Royal Australian Air Force Centenary Group Build

Count me in later this year with a Monogram 1/48 OS2U Kingfisher in RAAF markings and colors.

Great choice Mark, that will be good!

All of those are awesome but love that Boomerang Dodgy!

That’s one aircraft I’ve got to build one day.

It was a tough bugger Gamera, awsome ground support job, but no match for any Jap fighter. The number of Aussie airman killed in training and those sent to fight the Japs in obsolete aircraft is truly sad. They knew they had no chance but went anyway. Volunteers the lot of em.

Yeah, those guys had guts to spare. And I love the Boomerang since it’s an entirely Aussie aircraft instead of something bought from somewhere else like a Spit or P-40.

So I can look at this project a bit more. Kit box:

Kit innards (I opened the plastic bag very gently to check the ‘very fine and thin’ transparencies after clipping the box with a chair leg)

Proposed aftermarket : Montex masks, SAC undercarriage, Brengun flaps and reflector sights, HGW Models seatbelt and Airscale placards just in case the model looks like it needs them.

Lostagain-please out me down for a 1/48 AMT P-40-not sure what version yet-still decal searching…

Thanks

Patrick, that’s a huge amount of AM there, looking forward to that coming together.

Bob, great choice, the P-40/Kittyhawk was a stalwart for the RAAF in the desert and PTO.

Lost, hopefully will only use the aftermarket if it adds  There was a thing about these aircraft needing Sutton Harnesses, I covered the bases with that although I now know the kit actually has one. I’m told it hasn’t got the reflector sight though (so money well spent), and I’ve seen several different views of the paint colours required so this is going to need a certain amount of guesswork. Anyone with a good clear picture of the wing-mounted gun camera fancy trading, please say!

So I have this ICM Mk VIII in 1/48 scale and some old Aeromaster Decals. I’ll be good as long as the decals hold up and build this shark mouth Spitfire from 457 Squadron.

Hi 68GT, great choice - never knew ICM had a VIII.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

And just in time for the starting day

Awesome!!!

I may be a little slow out of the gate since I’ve working on my Bf-109 for Bish’s GB but the Spit is already started, cockpit is mostly done but I haven’t closed up the fusilage yet.

Especially to mark the start of our GB, the RAAF held a Centenary flypast over Canberra today:

Awesome pics Piers

I started the Mk. VIII today. Did a bunch of fitting and gluing for the engine, cockpit and engine compartment.

Hi Lost,

Having said I’d be in with a 464 Squadron Mosquito, I then totally failed to spot the topic move (been a long year, already!). So if you’re happy with a slightly embarrassed late arrival, I’m still in with the Mossie

Darren

Hey Darren, no problem at all, it is not a late start until 31st March next year.

68GT, thanks for starting us off!

I have kicked off the Vengeance, it’s what you might expect from a 50 year old kit. I did start with the idea of just building it as it was, but I just couldn’t let it go like that.

Started with the cockpit, and seeing if an Aires Twin Cyclone will fit in the cowling. The answer - not even close… So I will have to see what I can recover from the kit engine thing.

So after a bit playing around with styrene bits, got the cockpit looking a little better.

Some nice scratchbuilding there LA.

Piers & 68GT: Those look great guys!!!

Darren: That’s super cool!!!

Sorry, again I’m off to a late start here. I’ve got a tank I really want to get done and the base seems to be taking forever plus the Bf-109 for Bish. I’m trying to concentrate on getting them done instead of spreading myself too thinly.
