Revell Shuttle Reissues

Now that the shuttles are being put back into service, I thought Revell would get on the ball and rerelease their 1/144 shuttle with launch tower and shuttle with 747 kits but all they are releasing is a sad 1/144 shuttle. I’ve put the call out before and I’m asking all modelers again to send letters and e-mails to Revell-Monogram calling for a reissue of
1/144 shuttle with launch tower and
1/144 shuttle with 747
Please, take a few minutes and a stamp to petition Revell-Monogram. If enough of us do it, they’ll listen

Hi Nick,

This was posted by Pops in the Helicopter forum, but might be of interest to you:

I agree, I’d like to see either a reissue or some new space shuttle models.

Take care!
V

I agree! The only good 1/144 shuttle kit I have seen is the old Revell Kit and even if they don’t reissue the launch tower kit, I would love to see the full launch stack kit available again.

I really wish someone would build a better 1/72 kit for the shuttle, but I guess since the shuttles will be nearing retirement soon, no company is likely to do that. [V]

Whoops, sorry- the link is to a thread which will take you to a page on Revell of Germany’s website asking for consumer opinions on what new models to develop.

Regards,
V

There really is not anything horribly wrong with the Revell 1/72 shuttle. At least it has the tile detail! I would love to see the stack with the tower again. I have an old copy of the 747/shuttle set. And the 1/72 stack. Maybe they will listen!

While I agree that there isn’t anything horribly wrong with the Revell 1/72 shuttle, it does still leave a lot to be desired. The tile details are very over sized, the cockpit lacks any realistic details and the cargo bay door hinges are totally off the mark. I found the Monogram shuttle better for modeling an on orbit craft since the door hinges are much better in the open position, and the Revell has better detail for a ground based build.

I actually made my own resin cockpit for the Revell shuttle to give it a little more detail and will eventually finish rescribing the whole think to represent a realistic tile pattern. I decided to replace the Monogram orbitter with the Revell on my 1/72 stack build. I know I’m a little crazy for trying to accurately represent the 30,000+ tiles on the shuttle, but I set a reasonable goal for myself… I think it will be another 5 years before I’m finished. [:I]

I would love to see the 1/144 tower kit available again and maybe someday Real Space Models will get around to making their 1/144 MLP or a crawler.

The Real Space and Meteor Productions parts and decals can really help making a great shuttle kit. Meteor even has the fin tip camera in both scales. So, even with the short comings with the kits, there is plenty of resorces to help you along! I have 2 1/72 kits to do. I had better get started!

I just got on the Revell site and “wished for” a bunch of stuff. Two of them were reissues of the SS w/ 747 and one with the Launcher! - Calvin

Ive got the decal kit and the (Monogram - I think) 1/72 Shuttle Stack that I want to work them too… but I’ve been out of model buiding for so darn long I’m scared to and ruin those beautiful decals and that kit. They’re worth a fortune now! (no, not really, but more than I paid and tough to get!)

I just acquired one of the original Monogram issues of the 1/72 shuttles still sealed in the original plastic for $10! I may try a kit bash using the best parts from the Revell and Monogram kits along with resin stuff to make a relitively accurate model.

I recently started 2 1/144 space shuttles. one from airfix the other from minicraft. eventhough the detail is lacking as one might expect with this scale each company has a little something to offer. perhaps i’ll just kitbash the best of both into one. i’d love to get my hands on a 1/72 monogram with a stack and tower.

Unfortunately I believe that the only scale that the tower was available in was 1/144. I have one of the shuttles with the tank and boosters, man the thing is huge!

Wow! Great deal! Garage sale or something?

I got it off EBay! There were several of the large scale shuttle kits on there. Both older and the new Revell re-release. Opening bid was $9.99 and I was the only bidder! Even with shipping, it is cheaper than the new Revell off the shelf.

R and M’s Shuttle in 1/72 , Well what a load of JUNK. Bad fitting, BAD fitting. They only think of Profits

I’ve seen the 1:72 shuttle with boosters and the 1:144 shuttle with launch pad on ebay.
there a bit pricey but at least their available. It seems like those of us who do spacecraft builds must not generate enough revenue for the modelmakers to do reissues unless it is an aniversary of something related to a specific spacecraft or mission.

Hello; IPMS33206

I was wondering ? is the 1/72 scale shuttle the larger one about 15" lg. by 12"wd.?

and did you buy one ? or two?

how dose the monogram revell kit compare ?

I also wish to ask, if you are going to be kit bashing this shuttle;
will you be useing the lower hual 60% aft .
or rear wing sections?

I have never built this kit . and honsetly want to kit bash one for a Sci -fi project.
if you have some info on the basic constrution. Or if thier is a site I can view the instructions/ or current bulids , this would help very much…

I have priced two shuttle models in my area hobby shack/people is about 37.93 now . and my home hobby loc. is 45.00.
I am hopeing to wait and see what the holiday sale brings this labor day .

It depends what you are looking for. The Revell kit has the better cargo doors and some other details. But it has the tile detail that is way too deep. The Monogram has a smooth surface so you can add the tile detail yourself, but it has toy like parts like interchangeable payloads. I am still working on what parts to use from what kits. I have some resin stuff for this now. You could try EBay to get these kits.

Hi;
ya, i went to ebay and found some models opened and some lose parts.
and got an idea of the model.
I only want the wings, like other kit bash projects. extra parts come with mix and matching .

If you were to have any left overs. like a set of wings ? I would offer you a trade or what ever you would take .

most likely i’ll buy the shuttle around labor day . and then? pick and chose what i want to keep , then traide on Starship modeler’s trading post …

if the instructions are aviable for viewing on line . i hope to look closer at them to see if my kit bash will work…
thanks … nfpa1002

PS… could you give me the size of the 1/72 shuttle .
tip to tip and wing spand. how wide the main body is?

thank you very much…

A reissue of the Orbiter, and 747 combo, thats the ticket. The mold we already know exist, its only upgrading the decals that need to be done.People listen up,the modeling community wants these kits and theres money to be made.Lets get moving and not worry so much about car kits, use what you have, and make a lot of people happy in the bargain.
