smokinguns3, she’s looking real good! I hope mine comes out looking like a sub. Not like a cigar. I haen’t worked on it most of the week, as the boss lady needed her curio cabinet finished.[xx(] I hate staining.
jboutin, where is Uncle Bills Hobby shop in relation to Princess Auto?
I now have 60% of the lower fusalage scribed and will likely be done over the next few days then all thats left is the upper wing half. Sorry guys, no pictures till full rescribe job is done. Test fitted the upper fusalage half to upper wing and I can see I am going to have go with super glueing it in place since the fit is really tight I dont think regular Testors glue will hold it without it snapping off later from handling. Should be OK though. I am also going to take the advice I was given and do a re-wash of the cockpit to bring out the details a little more.
Well, I just finished my 1/48 Monogram, F-84F Thunderstreak this evening. The markings are for the 182 Fighter Interceptor Group, 169 Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the Illinois Air National Guard at Peoria. This is the first model that I built using the “module” concept. I built the fuselage, each wing and tail surfaces as separate units including painting and decaling, then joined them all together. I think that it worked rather well. The red tipped cylinder is a Mark VII, 61kt Special Weapon, aka Nuke. I drilled 52 holes in each wing spoiler and 188 holes in each fuselage speed brake. I messed up the left nose gear door and have to fix that. Comments welcome.
Well what perfect timing!! I’ve swept everything Die-cast customizing aside on my hobby table, and finally decided to get back into the plastics. So, right around the time this whole GB started I went out and bought a RM P-51 (unbeknownst to me there was a GB going on). Anyways, making my grand re-entrance into models and thought I’d join ya’ll in this GB. This will be my first GB! I’ll await approval before adding the badge to my sig.
Yardbird- AMAZING! wow. great job! just goes to show that the model kit itself has little to do with how good a model looks [:D] I just can’t help but love the way the canopy on the bird goes up [:)]
OK nets been down almost all day so here are the final pics. All cableing was done with wire twisted to make cable the upper lines comeing from the conning tower are coats&clarks nylon painted black the weathering was done with ground up chalk mixed with water, and the flags where done with silk from one of my dads R/C planes with the decals motherd with decal solvent and let set for 24hr’s.
That is some truly beautiful work on the submarine. I don’t do boat models, but I am a huge fan of the WW-II submarine service and you have definately done them justice with your work.
That is one sweet looking Sub. Great job and well done.
Yardbird you did a great job on the F-84. It’s got to be one of the coolest aircraft with the way the canopy opens etc. You did a great job on a not so perfect kit. Nice job on the finish.
Great job guys. Yardbird. You must have the patience of a saint to be able to drill that many fine holes. Great job.
Smokinggun, Outstanding build. Where are you gonna place that badboy? You have shown just because it’s a sub without alot of detail that they can look sweet if you put extra effort into it
Sorry I’m getting this to you late, I rarely check FSM on the Weekends. Uncle Bills is further east from Princess Auto. At 47th St turn north. Turn left at 52nd ave then north again onto 44th st. Turn Right at 54th ave and then just as the road begins to curve to the left you hang a right into a parking lot with some shops (one is for drivers education) and Uncle Bill is on the east side of the building several shops down. It is a little more convoluted to get to than his old shop but it is a much nicer shop. Hope this helps!
