Revell Monogram Group Build!!!

Supraman and Smokinguns3

Im wondering how does it feel to work with 1/72 Gato Class? Hard or Easy? just curious about ur opinion on that new model that Revell released. I know i prolly cant get it since its too big for my townhouse lol.

Its not hard, just awkward to handle even in a 10x10 shed always have to watch what your doing.

so where where born in Illinois?

Ok ive got it painted and airbrushed the edages of my squggle camo, ive also painted the broom on the conning tower that job is done. So here are the pictures.

Nice job on the submarine! Cant wait to see the compete submarine. I only saw 3 World War 2 subs in my life which is U-505 in Chicago Society Museum and bowfin in Hawaii and one of Gato I think, in Maryland (Inner Harbor or baltimore) which has tiger face on the front of the submarine it was back in 1997 i think not sure what the name it was. and one modern nuclear sub was USS Kamehameha (sp) at Pearl Harbor, which just arrived from their joureny from somewhere.

I was born in Deerfield abt 30 mins north of chicago.

I was raised in west chicago out side warnville and ST. Charles my pops was born in wayne

and Thanks.

great progress guys! wow smokinguns, you’re almost done!

I finished scribing and nearly finished sanding the bottom front of fuselage. the kit isn’t actually that bad. just a little grunt there and a drop of blood there… [:D]

Scribing and sand is slow around here, but the results are well worth it.

first three sections are seamless…mostly

what it looks like with nose attached but not glued

wait… what is the broom for in the conning tower?

K I haven’t made that much progress… but here goes.

don’t mind the orange hue, its just the lamp

scribing on the frontal bottom fuse is declared done, and the sanding is almost done. I have a sickly little step that I have to smooth out. how, I don’t know, but I’ll just have to tackle it and see what happens.

also, I got a very nice gift from gedenke (member here). I came home from school this monday (I detest modays with a burning passion of a thousand suns) in a very foul mood and found these sitting on my front steps. it made my day [:D]

THANKS GEDENKE!!!

and thank you all the other ppl for looking [:D]

I have know friggin clue maybe its for sweeping mines[;)]

No. it signifies a ‘clean sweep’. If I recall correctly, it is when a sub used up all it’s torpedos, and scored a kill each time they fired. To show off for the dock crew they would lash a broom from the mast to signify a clean sweep.

Now since this Group Build also allows for just Monogram, I started this model of Monogram’s 1/72 scale Tigercat. This is after a few hour’s work:

I got some Tamiya navy blue to spray on this once I get it cleaned up anmd finished off. Meanwhile, the Wright Flyer is moving along slowly.

I’m in: Shelby Cobra 427 S/C, specifically the one Sam Feinstein won the SCCA Championship with in 1973.

Yep, you are correct.

I like my version it sounds better[#wstupid][:P]

That is a great idea as long as you are the one out front doing the sweeping.

they are all correct about the broom except it does signify a clean sweep all torpedoes fired but not all hits, they routinely fired 4 or more at a target at a time but some would miss.

In the book “The Bravest Man” it is claimed the USS Wahoo under Lt. Cdr Dudley 'Mush" Morton started the tradition with Dick O’Kaye as XO, at the end of there third patrol. The broom was tied to the attack periscope on the way into port to encourage the port workers and other crews.

Thanks guys and darwin shoot i dont care you can mount up on the bow like one of them statues ya see on sailing ship’s, you could call it ocean golf[:D]

OK not much got done i decided not to use the thred in the kit an woove my own cable this time i only used two strands per cable befinetly tricky. Also did some weathering on the hull, this consited of ground up white chalk with alittle bit of water add kind of the consitencey of water colors once the white calk was dry i used a wide brush with some preassure in a downard motion then i added the rust same deal i used orange brown and yellow. I should have used flat clear it would have brought out the weathering alot better but i didnt have any so i used future so when the future hit the chalk it sort of erased most of it.
