Revell Charger as "The General Lee"

Hi Guys,

I’ve been a stranger here or a few months—just busy, busy, busy, traveling and such…any way; I’ve been laboring on this model for a good part of six months, and I"m giving it to my fiance’ Jenn’s brother as a surprise birthday gift. He’s an ardent “Dukes of Hazzard” fan, and I always wanted to build this car, so…it’s going to be great to see his reaction when I present him with it!

It’s the Revell '69 Charger, with decals and scratchbuilt details. I used Testor’s “Competition Orange” which is almost a match for “Hemi Orange”, but a shade/hair lighter.

Here it is!

I got the correct rims/wheels from the old AMT “Eckler’s Corvette” kit, and scratchbult the front push bar.

I think I got the stance pretty good!

I weathered the underside with MIG’s pigments.

I found some reference on the internet that said that the first General Lee had a red 383 in it, so that’s how I modeled it. I did some detailing of the engine; plug wires, hoses, etc.

The interior before I sealed it up. I scratch’ed the CB radio; the wire is jewelery wire, and the dials are PE things I had laying around. Also, the roll cage was built with styrene. The “pads” on the roll cage is actually plastic tube, slit down the middle and then slipped onto the rod, and sealed with putty and carefully sanded smooth. The carpeting is embossing powder; they were weathered for effect.

The presentation.

Thanks for looking in, guys–I miss interacting with ya’ll, and hope to be back with some frequency after mid-August for a few weeks until I have to go again…comments and questions always welcomed!!

Fantastic job as usual Karl. [t$t] Never expected to see that detail on the underside. A real eye-popper for sure.

Jim [cptn]

Terrific build, Karl. I really like the weathering aspect of it.

Glenn

yeeee hawww

Looks great!

Awesome Job Karl (as usual)! I was at the LHS today and saw a General Lee kit and one for Rosco’s car too. I pointed both out to the Mrs.

Good to see you back too!

Thanks, guys! It’s good to be back too–well, at last for this little time being, Griffin! [:)]

Thanks for all the nice comments and thumbs-ups! I DO appreciate you taking the time, all!

Karl [Y]

Sweet looking General! best one I’ve seen around [t$t]

Thanks a ton, JT! That’s high praise, coming from you!

I appreciate i!!

Looks great Karl, brings back many memories, I think you have captured this famous auto perfectly.

Terry.

I always admire your work Karl! Your General has the “feel” of the 1:1.Awsome weathering. Thanks for show’n!

OldSalty

Thanks, Terry! Always nice to hear from you! I appreciate your stopping by to comment!

And thanks too, oldsalty!

Thanks for the thumbs up on the weathering!

The stance does look great! alot of the Chargers i have seen (including the drag car i built) seem to sit very high. Nicely done. i heard about an interesting incident on a MOPAR page on facebook… apparently there was a General Lee not allowed into a car show because of the Confederate flag on the roof. I mean i kinda understand where the people are coming from, but seriously? that is, in all honesty, taking it a step too far in my book.

Nice. it certainly hits all the right marks for a good Genny Lee.

I believe the official warner bros color is “Corvette Flame Red”, not Hemi Orange (which is a lot darker/redder).

Looks cool…

Doog!

Great work. From what I understand they destroyed so many of those cars doing those stunts, at least one a week.

Mike T.

Thanks Wild Child!

Yeah, I’ve heard rumblings of the whole “Confederate flag fiasco” thing–I think it’s silly to take it THAT far; I mean, it’s a prop. I’ve heard something about Scale Auto not allowing it on their site or in the mag or something? I haven’t tried to post it up there yet, but I hope they really don’t go there. That would seriously bother me; the censorship.

Thanks for that correction, OctaneOrange!

And for the thumbs up!

Thank you, too. Guney!

UGH! Don’t remind me, Mike! All those poor, beautiful Chargers–trashed! It breaks me heart!

Thanks for the compliment!

I appreciate it, everyone!! [:D]
