Repaint attempt on the Mig-29

All glossed up and ready for decals, adding a gloss coat finish prior to adding decals is the most helpful way to insure good decal adhesion and no silvering of the carrier film.
Whatever decal setting solutions you use, the glossy surface makes them perform perfectly.

Absolutely! A smooth gloss coat really makes a difference.

Applied decals…some of the smaller placards as well.
The sides are complete, there are a lot of tiny decals that are even numbered on the decal sheet but, there are NO numbers on the painting guide sheets…and the guide sheet shows them but you can’t make out the letters…just a tiny smear of color so you know SOMETHING goes there !
I doubt I will purchase another “great wall” kit, the errors and omissions in the instructions are legion.
I can’t wrap my head around a high cost kit that actually looks good but is a PITA to figure out how to build it and interpret the correct colors.

Had to mask & paint the hatch cover on the spine black and shot the gloss on the decals to seal them on.
I’ll wait a couple hours and do some staining and shoot the flat coat and flat accents.
I am not loading missiles because the instructions don’t show details on painting on the large missiles or any info for decals on them or the pylons.

Flat coat added with minor dirt/subtle shading, still need to ad some soot to the exhausts, gun exhaust, and flare tubes.
Have to paint the gear struts an

d add the wheel assemblies/gear doors.

Have to reattach the antenna on the spine, a static pole on a wingtip and pull the canopy mask.
Its all the small things that have to be finished before the kit is completed that takes up a lot of time like the tiny brass AOA and side slip sensors on the nose.

When I was taking some photos I must have pulled the fabric and the blue mig slipped off the table and hit the floor, it landed on the gear but…

Snapped all the parts in the first photo.

I just picked up all the pieces, put them on the cloth…shut everything down, and walked back to the house.

The next day we went to Soaring Eagle and added another $100 bill to my " feed my addiction fund".

So today I went back to the scene of the crime and rebuilt it…much like the “Six million dollar man” but, with a much smaller budget…

That’s a beautiful pair of MiGs there. And great recovery after the Uncontrolled Flight Into Terrain. Looks like the stores all survived!

I was getting them ready to put on the wall, if you look between the engines you can see the fishhook inserted into the hull…
