You might try buying some CA Debonder. That should do the trick.
If that doesn’t work, i’ve used acetone in the past - but only to clean it off my fingers. Not sure how acetone would work in debonding CA on plastic.
acetone shouldn’t hurt the plastic either so it’s worth the try… sometimes I use it to clean a model of grease (fingerprints/molding process residue)and it just cuts everything but the plastic…
I recently got a kit off ebay like that, half built… I think he forgot to include that in the description after the word “mint” he used to describe it… maybe he meant “mint” flavored…
hehehe…that would suck
i though that acetone ate up plastic…dunno why, just did
this guy waas sellin 3 tamiya mercedes dtm clk’s. on 2 the bods r started, one is painted…its ok, but id rather do it myself :). and one of the kits was unopened. and i got em all for the price of 1 retail…ahhhh i luv ebay…
oh yeah… I’ve had more positive experience than negative… got some great OOP kits that way…
I’ve never had it mar plastic, you can try on a piece of sprue if you want to be sure… I imagine if you used a lot of it or left it in acetone it might have some adverse effectts…
just occured to me… why do you think they used superglue to bond it?

whoops… c what lack of sleep does!!
um i think its ca coz its a real strong bond and u can theres like solid gobs of the stuff on the inside
haha I was wondering… thought I was hearing an echo!!! hmm… the globs are clear? as in crystal? or sligtly whitish… if there is any hint of white try water first, soak it over night… my cousin tried to clue a model together with elmers once… ya never know… then acetone… I would try that… if that doesn’t work I don’t know what to tell ya. Acetone WILL dissolve superglue… not sure about what if anything would dissove cement…
If it is CA, get some nail polish remover, the acetone is dilluted and less likely to attack the plastic or get some CA de-bonder which will not damage the plastic at all and will dissolve the CA. De-bonder is available at most hobby shops.
If it is model glue then put the kit in the freezer for several hours, this will make the joins brittle and with careful manipulation, allow you to break the parts apart. Careful is the catchword here!

hey madmike howzitgoin mate? ;)good 2 c fellow ozzies here!

G’day mate, going good here, beaut day in Perth, nice and sunny!
cheers

You must be careful with Acetone. It will melt certain plastics and will not react on other types. My problem is I don`t know what kind of plastic is the “melt” type and what kind is the “no melt” type.
thats why always try it one on sprue from the same area I am about to wipe before I do… PVC it will not melt, all the styrene I have wiped it will not melt. I don’t DARE get with ten feet of clear parts with it just in case… that would be something even future couldnt help… hmmm I feel a project, gonna find out what it will and wont affect…
you guys you guys you guys, you and your nasty chemicals… [BG] Try PEANUT BUTTER, whenever people get their fingers stuck together with super glue, the doctors in the emergency room use peanute butter to release the bond… Give it a whirl and see if it works [:D]
rusty your old guy in the sig has gotten older.
peanut butter? i dont doubt its ability cos i believe you rusty, but the question is WHY ? whats the chemical in it that makes mighty CA bow down? then the next question is : do i still want to eay PBJs any more ?
the chemical in it that makes it mights? peanut oil of course [8-]
yeh, the old guy in the sign is well, this is the badge for completeing the OLD Guns Build, you wouldn’t know about that being that you are a YOUNG GUN… not to mention the url where i was hosting my pic is not hosting THIS picture anymore… and Hey! I am the leader of the Old Guns Build I should be like Patton, Maybe I Will add some stars to that picture… hahahhaha[}:)]
Remember this, The force? I don’t need no stinkin’ force, I am like Yoda but I have a beard…
hmmm… maybe one of those daVinci style halos? maybe that’s a tad much… how about just a ‘glow’ emanating around you… as if your very presence lightened the pic haha…
I’m currently waiting for the Future to cure on my OS2U and maybe in a few days I will grow a beard too!
