Everytime I hear “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” all I can see is the scene from “Young Frankenstein.” Peter Boyle, as the Monster, in top hat, tails, and cane “singing” that tune ! Priceless !
Anyway, here are the pics of my completed 1/48 Hasegawa Arado Ar 234B-2 “Blitz” bomber. In case you haven’t seen my many updates, I used Verlinden and Eduard detail sets, added wiring and hydraulic lines to the cockpit and main gear legs, and Eagle Strike decals. I also used a Squadron vac canopy for the nose glazing and opened entry hatch.
This has been my most involved project to date, and it’s very special to me. I hope you like it too. As always, thanks for letting me share my build with you !
Now that this one is finished, I’m almost at a loss of what to build next !
Fantastic model Pix [tup][tup]. You have really taken it to the next level, attained by very few. Thanks for sharing this piece of art with us mere mortals [:)].
Outstanding!!! detail is incredible! Great looking assist pods. I’m curious about your photography. What brand camera, settings, etc.? Nice clean sharp photos .
Man, this is so very very beautiful[tup]
And some really nice photos too, can you give us some tips, for instance what you use as background. Once again: Awesome!!!
Thank you very much thehannaman, Lufbery, Joe, Rick, dragonfly, Swanny, markworthi, rrmelend, and Gilmund !
Lufbery - that aircraft was my only color reference. I found quite a few pics of it on the web, and they came in VERY handy.
dragonfly - I use a Canon PowerShot G5 camera, with 5 megapixels of resolution. All my settings are done manually (white balance, f-stop, exposure time). My camera will shoot in the RAW format, which is uncompressed. It also has an ISO equivalency, which I set to ISO 50 for a crisper image. I use Adobe Photoshop to reduce the photo’s dimensions and size (1024 x 768 pixels, 150 kB)
Gilmund - for backgrounds, I use posterboard. The rear curves up a wall so that I don’t have a seam in the background. They cost me less than a dollar a sheet.
I am awestruck Pix-- you have pulled out some masterpieces in the brief time I have known of you-- but this one is certainly your best yet. Matt Usher-- get this one in the magazine- there are none better out there…
Thanks ghettochild, Jeeves, ygmodeler4, Jason, chukw, Arastad, and pingtang !
ghettochild - the bomb and sled are resin, from the Verlinden set. I’ll edit this to include a pic of the sled by itself.
Jeeves - I’m getting a CD ready of some of my builds for submission to the Gallery. Unfortunately, my subscription ran out, money is too tight at this time to renew, and no stores in my area carry FSM. [V]
chukw - the rivets on the canopy frames are decals, from the Eagle Strike sheet. It’s a nice bonus, as I’d NEVER be able to paint them like that !
Arastad - the nose glazing and opened hatch are vac parts, the rest is from the kit. I masked it with Scotch “frosty” tape, and used decals for the rivets.
I was wondering if I went off the “deep end” on this build. If you look at the bottom pic, you can see the wire I added to the RATO unit’s static line (just below the brass “loop.” - 2 horizontal bands). Adding detail to a detail piece (where does it stop?). I’m gonna need therapy after this build !
Pix-- when pics of your build come out in an issue, I promise I will pick up an extra for you and send it right out!! Although I think FSM sends out complimentary issues anyways? They did when I had a Reader Tip published…but regardless I will be looking for a Bill Lachance pictorial soon [;)]
